the waist on the XL will probably be too big. I think you'll be happiest with a large as 686 stuff, even the slim fit stuff, is pretty generously sized.

I was worried with these being new and no reviews as to how they fit. Well for one I wish I got a small. I wear a 32 waist Levi's skinny 511 jeans and figured with my unds and long johns they'd be a nice fit since the Medium is 32-34. I kept them since they went out of stock everywhere by the time I got them, but would have rather the small. So I have a little fold/bulge since theres no elastic in the waist.
Really well made pant. Nice technical features without getting too over the top. Slim fit that I want to wear them as regular pants! Seriously! They look so good. I actually don't feel ridiculous wearing the with my sneakers going to the slopes. I plan on getting a few seasons out of these. The green is nice. A true kelly green!

Thanks man! I would have ordered a pair of mediums and would have been upset with the fit ha, but there are no more smalls left on this site so i have to look somewhere else... :(

hey man i usually wear medium for pants and i tried on a small and they fit so perfectly and i'm 5'11" with a 32 waist. hope this helps!

bought these for my boyfriend- probably the pickiest gear whore ever. absolutely loved them. the fit was amazing- not too tight and not too loose. super warm while not being too overly hot or suffocating. otherwords, perfect. more than likely going to order another pair in other colors- they're awesome!

Hey,
We actually just had the 686 rep in here a few hours ago! He said these pants are cut as close as possible to 511's while still maintaining ride-ability. So to answer your question, pretty dang similar.
