Its more of a shell. It has some insulating but all it means is you use one less base layer possibly. Its no puffy suit.

They are pretty roomy... I'm 6' and 195lbs. I would definitely not need the XL as the Large is plenty roomy.
Unless you like gangster fit than you may want the XL.
