Sturdy and solid
Does it's job just about perfectly. Luckily haven't had to use mine in any real scenarios yet, but from training and checking snow depths it's been solid so far. It might be a bit short for some scenarios, and a carbon probe would without a doubt be a bit lighter and stiffer. But it's quick to deploy, has clear markings and is overall an excellent product with good value.
Weight in grams
Real weight is a bit higher. It's 260g without sac. Sac adds about 15 grams more.
Seem like good quality
I haven't had to save anyone's life with this yet, but the quality looks good, it's easy to use, it packs up pretty small and it is fairly light. I also thought the price was right. Good product.
Did not have to use it!
Didn't have to use it but it comes in a bag which slides nicely into a slot in my pack. Its light weight and I felt good having it with me.
A quick deploy is paramount when in an avy recovery operation and BCA's mechanism is the fastest and easiest to use. Simply toss the probe, pull on the metal chord and the mechanism will click and lock into place once the probe is fully together. The "click!" of the mechanism is reassurance that my probe is fully deployed, locked and ready to go without falling apart on me. I don't have to guess, hope, or take extra time to make sure the chord is properly locked down, like other competitor's products.
The mechanism also allows for easy break down of the probe while keeping gloves on, which is really nice not to have to fiddle with a string.
All in all, a great and sturdy probe whose deployment mechanism will save you precious time in an avalanche event.
Had this one for a few years. Simple, dependable and reliable. Will probably last a life time.
Simple, strong and quick to deploy. This is a great probe. The grip is super nice for snow or ice covered gloves. The mechanism to keep the probe locked is simple to engage and easy enough to disengage. No complaints.
made in taiwan
fastest probes around...
I bought these as a spare for bc trips, incase my friends spaced theirs. I like how fast you can pull the probe together, the glove friendly push buttons in the end disassembles them fast. Quick, fast, efficient and affordable! I have a fancy carbon fiber probe, I wont say who made it although it is light and much cooler looking but noticeably not as fast to set up or break down.
All you need.......
Cheap and reliable!!!!!!!
Good length and weight. Good price and it works well.
This probe is a great length and weight for what you are getting! Easy on the wallet (considering options) too! I recommend it to all my touring friends. The locking mechanism is one of the best I have researched. Super intuitive! Give it a stab!
Extend Your Probe
While no one other then avy dummies owes their life to my probe...it has survived many a practice run and avy training courses. I have witnessed carbon fiber probes snap in half when jammed into hard snow and other have difficulty putting theirs together quickly but with the BCA 240 I simply toss it out in front of me and yank the cable tight. Presto! its together and ready for action. Not overly expensive either.
Basic and Dependable
They're more expensive pieces out there, but this one has never failed me. It compacts and extends without kinks, and stores very neatly in my pack for easy access. No complaints from me or my wallet.
You Forget You're Carrying It
The Profile is a quick set up probe that is simple and strong. Any one can use this the first time, just throw and pull; sets up in seconds. It is a 6-section 7075 aluminum tubing that is 240cm (7ft 11inches) at full extension. It collapses to 18 inches (45.75 cm). For its weight, it is very durable and holds up season after season.
Reliable and durable
This bad boy works, over and over again. No twisting and shaking anyone can assemble this in 5 seconds.
Simple and solid
Simple solid system, no frills. This is a great probe.
