Helmets don't have to be disposable.
First things first: The Macon Hard Hat isn't a fully certified snow or skate helmet. Its AVS shell and moisture-wicking Brock foam are designed to absorb multiple lower-intensity impacts, not full-out ski crashes or skate wipeouts, so if you're pushing the limits, it's probably not the brain bucket for you. If, however, you're clicking into skis or strapping into your board for the first time, the Macon's a great option. It'll cushion your dome over and over during low-speed, low-intensity falls, and the passive ventilation will keep your egg from scrambling and the removable liner lets you switch to summer activities in a hot second.
- AVS shell with Brock foam
- Multiple impact
- Passive ventilation
- Removable liner
- Appropriate for winter and summer use

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I can honestly say that I put this helmet through the wringer. About as wrung out as it can get. Rode this helmet for about 3 years, essentially crash free. Until recently.
But how can you really REALLY review a helmet if you haven't crashed with it. Well, I have. And here is my review.
Sure this helmet is cool looking. That's the only reason it has any stars. It also fits well and is warm. Another star. But that is all this helmet has going for it.
I had a serious crash with this helmet and sustained a very serious concussion and was kept over-night (thanksgiving day) in the hospital for observation. I dont remember anything from that day, or the day befor.
Take notice, there are NO SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS for this helmet. This is a no-brainer (tsk tsk). There are plenty of cool helmets with safety certifications in this price range. Stay away.
I will be retiring this helmet (throwing it in the trash can). This is not a burn on the company BERN (tsk), as they make some good helmets that are certified. This helmet, and all hard helmets in general need to go away.
Boarding with the Bern Macon Hard Hat
I ordered this helmet about two years ago in a small (I am 5'2.5) I found that the item fit true to size and I love it! I was initially a little concerned about the white getting super dirty but it does not. The removable liner is awesome too for warm days on the slopes. Overall this is a great item for "low impact" wipe outs like the description says. If you wipe out frequently or really hard, I would go with something else. But for your average and cautious person, this is a great buy.
