The Brooks-Range Sharktooth Compact Mini-Pro Shovel takes the bite out of ice and hardpack snow thanks to its aggressive serrated blade, and its compact size fits easily in your pack. An avalanche is no laughing matter and neither is digging out your partner. Rely on this durable blade to make short work of hard, setup snow.
- A slightly smaller blade takes up less room in your pack without sacrificing quality
- Mini-Pro blade allows you to move more than 90 square inches of snow with every shovelful
- Deadman holes allow for use as an emergency anchor

Does the handle detach from the blade? I'd like to put the blade in my pack and secure the handle on the outside of my pack to save room inside. Thanks all.
Hey Nathan, this shovel comes in four pieces
3. Shaft extension
You can definitely carry that not put together, though, if you are in a avalanche prone area I wouldn't recommend carrying it around that way, the timing on getting that put together could really make or break a situation.
I hope that helps!!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this for digging out of the snow and ice mounds that snow plows can block cars in with. This shovel made short work of the pile! I was a bit unsure about the shovel, until it arrived. Sturdy construction but lightweight, takes up minimal space in the trunk. Absolutely thrilled with this purchase!
Good reliable shovel
Always nice to see something so compact and functional not cost an arm and a leg. Haven't had it long enough to speak on durability, hence the 4, instead 5, stars.
Shovel locked at 90?
The handle locks at 90º.
These shovels are absolutely awesome.
I have a Backcountry Pro Compact with a D-handle, not to be confused with the Compact-Pro. Yes, Backcountry sells four different Brooks Range shovels that look almost exactly the same, but the kicker is, Brooks Range will customize your shovel to your needs. Shark-tooth or straight edge? Long-neck or compact? D-handle or T-handle? Full size or compact blade? They have a full range of colors and do the crazy Chaos anodization if you want to be extra rad, bra.
My Brooks Range shovel has the best blade strength to weight ratio of any shovel I've owned. The shaft can be used with a pair of skis and poles to make a rescue sled. The handle can be locked at 90º if you're digging laterally. It's completely customizable. They'll even monogram it for you. And all of the options (except a $3 charge for monogramming) are available for the same price!
Seriously. Look past the hype of the big brands. Brooks Range makes these awesome shovels in the USA to keep your butt safe in the backcountry. Get one for yourself. Then, get one for your skiing buddies. After all, if you get buried, you'll want them to have the best shovel available in their hands when they're digging you out.
