A small pack with a big agenda.

The AK 15L pack may be the smallest pack in Burton's AK line, but that doesn't mean it isn't a highly versatile and capable pack. Not only does it have the interior space to fit enough gear for a day in the backcountry, it also has essential safety features like an easy-access shovel and probe pocket and external pole storage for the downhill. For the uphill, the pack has a vertical snowboard carry with a pack compression system. Burton also included a hydration bladder sleeve so you don't have to open up your pack every time you have cottonmouth on the hike up.

  • Vertical snowboard carry
  • Easy access shovel and probe pocket
  • External pole storage
  • Hydration compatible
  • Goggle pocket
  • Padded shoulder straps and back panel

Tony Romo of Snowboarding Packs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this thinking it'd be kick ass and all stoked about the AK series.

I was let down worse than a Dallas Cowboys fan.

It seems like Burton went solely after the appearance of the pack and neglected the functionality.

The number one thing I was interested in this pack for was holding my board. The straps are anchored to the part of the pack that goes against your back, so if you have a load in the pack and want to strap your board to the pack, chances are real good that you wouldn't be able to get the board strapped in (same way I struggled).

When there is no load or an altered load in the pack...say you take a layer out of the pack, and have the board strapped in, the board will hang lower and cause nightmares.

Great things about this pack; the material looks like it'd be great and durable. And it'd be perfect for someone looking for a low profile pack that doesn't plan on strapping their board to their pack.
