Wet? Cold? What’s that?

When it comes to waterproof protection, you can’t beat Gore-Tex, and when it comes to warmth, you can’t beat down. Logic follows, then, that you can’t beat the Burton Women’s AK Flare Down Snowboard Jacket. Fully seam-taped Gore-Tex softshell fabric guarantees total dryness in the deeps, the slush, and your bathroom shower, and 650-fill down insulation keeps you warm—even when you’re night shredding amidst howling Canadian winds.
  • Insulation engineered to maintain mobility
  • Removable powder skirt keeps snow out of your layers
  • Jacket-to-pant zippered interface increases protection against snow
  • Underarm zippers provide ventilation when needed
  • Hem cinch cord seals out wind from the bottom

Glitter? Really?

I got the black version of this jacket and was very disappointed to find the the zip down the front has glitter edges! You might dig it, but to me, glitter is a problem!

Ordered a medium and found it pretty snug. Wish that the website a bit more clearly stated that there are team fits/slim line fits etc.....I got sent slim line and again, probably not quite my thing. Also found it a fairly snug/short fit.

But I will be warm ......and glittery!

not bad

depends on what you need. It only has 2 pockets, I searched inside out, outside in, only 2, that's it. It's definitely warm, you don't need to wear a heavy duty mid-layer, but a little tiny bit bulkiness. You want function, then it is the one, you want style, then forget it, it has no style, well ... to me. The blue color is nice though, love this blue, true vibrant blue. I only recommend the blue color jacket, not the other 2 color.
PS I returned it because I want not only functional but also stylish. Otherwise, I'd have kept this one.

Buttery Soft but a Steel Barrier to the Cold and Wet

I ordered this jacket too late, the season is pretty much over where I live. However, I did get to wear it once and I wish I had this years ago. This jacket is pretty awesome. The shape is more fitted, a nice change for a more full-figured woman, rather than the straight jackets that end up gripping or riding up the hips. In addition to the fit and feminine appearance, the jacket is very soft! I'm used to stiff fabrics but this is so much nicer. The feel is soft and deceptively smooth, but no liquids or moisture gets through the gore-tex. The down filling also keeps me very warm and allows me to minimize my warming layers, reducing my bulk. The hood fits over my helmet, but it does not stay up very well. I had it up to protect my neck and face from some very powerful icy winds that were blowing, and while it was up I was impervious to the cold, but it would often get blown down.

There are only two features that I think could be improved upon: the zipper can and does get stuck at the neck, this is due to the delightfully soft fabric, it just catches; No input for earphones or mp3 player. I'm sure later iterations of this jacket will improve on the design, but this is the best money I have spent on snowboard gear.

I chose the firefly color and holy cow, I will never be lost. It is like a lime colored neon highlighter, not subtle but not nauseating.

All in all, despite the high price, this is the best money I've spent on my snowboarding habit! Go Burton! Perfect combo of comfort, style and performance.

LOVE this jacket!

I'm one of those girls that could wear a down jacket just about every day on the hill, and I'm so glad I bought this one. It breathes very well so I don't overheat (also has pit zips/vents), it's very warm on the days I need it to be, and overall, its just a great jacket with all the standard features you need on a shred jacket (powder skirt, hood, etc.). My only complaint is that it doesn't have a media pocket on the inside for my ipod, but I can see why with the baffling and stitching that's needed for a down jacket.

AK SAVES THE DAY

I love the woman’s AK collection from Burton. Woman’s Burton AK is filled with all the great functions they give the guys, plus, they add great cuts and prints. Durable, lightweight, breathable and CUTE!!

good, but could be better.

I bought this jacket because I wanted a down jacket that would work with the link-zip interface to my 2009 Burton AK 2L Summit pants. The jacket keeps me very dry, as expected, and it links to my pants beautifully. That said, there are a few things that I don't love about it... I wish there were more pockets. I am a fan of the goggle pocket in the chest and the map pocket on the arm. This jacket has neither. Also, I don't love the neck closure. It's too tall to sit under my chin when zipped but not quite tall enough to cover my mouth. It just sort of covers my chin (which is weird), so I end up having to use a neckwarmer on cold days to protect my face. Also, it really could be a bit warmer. I haven't found a jacket that is better suited to my needs, so I guess I'm relatively happy with it, but it's definitely not as perfect as I had hoped.
