nice!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are great. The ventilation thing on both sides works great when you need to cool down. The material seems thicker on these than on the 3 L Hover that I checked out in the store. Pockets and features are great and they definitely keep you dry, even wading through thigh deep snow after getting caught in the flats. Get em!

Slightly Smaller Fit than 2011-2012

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got these in Oceanic. Nice color and the fleece butt and knees are certainly a plus. The fit seems slightly smaller than last year when FYI was designing them and way smaller than a few years ago. Overall the AK line is great and you definitely get what you pay for.

How do these pants fit? Baggy? Slim?...

How do these pants fit? Baggy? Slim? Relaxed? or Just Right?

Burton's Signature Fit (Sig Fit) is a regular fitting pant - just right. Burton puts a lot of time and effort into dialing the fit to be not too skinny, not too baggy.

Great pant! Loads of features.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The only pant I've found that would top this would be the Burton 3L pant, but only if it had the pockets and features of the 2L.

I've had this pant for several years. I currently bought the 2013 and figured I'd compare it to one from a few years ago.

First off, the sizing is different than it used to be. I'm a 36x32 and used to fit into the large very comfortable. The 2013 large for me was too snug with even a mid-weight base layer underneath. If I added pads or full pockets it'd be an uncomfortable day of riding. So I had to move to the XL which was much more roomy, if not a little too much space.

The 2013 Stagger has HUGE mesh lined vents. The one on the side goes from the hip to the knee and there's a big one in the crotch. The only downside of vents this large is when you have them full open they look more like saddle pants. But I'll take it for that much venting! Love the mesh, when we spill in powder, we'll keep the snow out.

The GoreTex material is rougher than prior years thus seems more durable. While it isn't an insulated pant, I have never needed anything other than a mid weight layer in even the coldest conditions.

Nice big cargo pockets on the side so you can load them up with your cameras, cliff bars, tools or whatever. So even if you change coats during the day, you can keep all your important gear with you. The upper front pockets and rear pockets are all zippered so you won't be losing your wallet.

It is really the best featured snowboard pant I have found and I've looked around a lot.

Only thing I miss over prior years is the zipper jacket to pants interface. Burton took it out this year so all you have is three loops that you can use to connect to a powder skirt. It isn't going to keep you bone dry when you go for a long slide like the zipper will, but it's better than nothing.

I got these replaced by Burton for my 10/11 Akookoo Heat model, which were made of much lighter material and tore apart between legs in just 14 days of mild riding. I can say it's very-very different from previous years, as the material got really dense and durable, and yes, fit became much tighter. Also, the vent between legs is behaving differently with this rough material, it turns forward and sometimes looks odd. Anyway, everything else stayed the same and these pants kick ass. I also have Highlander (check them out!), they're a bit thicker, but also just as good.

bone dry

I wear these with the AK 2L Cyclic jacket, best combo ever!

FYI, Camo pattern is much darker and greener in reality, it's neither as light as in this photo nor as vivid as at stock photo. The colour is really pleasant, deep green camo.

High out put ventilation

Blow dry your chassis total weatherproof performance meets high out put ventilation. Mapped with brushed tricot fleece in the knees and bottom gives you the ultimate comfort. Stay warm and stay cool with Burton's Test-I -Cool crossflow venting. Articulated knees always the pant to move the way you do.

Why can't anyone make reasonable leg pockets?

Alright, it might sound like I'm complaining, but let me just say these pants are rad. They're made with a kind of material that seems about half way between soft shell and hard shell, and are definitely waterproof as f***. I ended up getting an XL pair, which you can wear with a 33" waist if you've got a belt to go with it. I'm 6'1", 200 lbs with a 33" waist and I'd actually recommend the large instead.

Regardless, these are a nice choice if you're not looking to spend 3L money, but still want a pair of pants that will keep the farts in and the powder out.
