A backcountry suit of armor.

When you're deep in the backcountry far from any chairlifts, resorts, hot tubs, or help, you can't afford to have your outerwear fail you. The Burton Men's AK 3L Hover Gore-Tex Jacket is built with the highest quality, proven materials to help it thrive in the harshest conditions and provide you with no-nonsense function for comfort and mobility whether you're hiking up or shredding down.

Three-layer Gore-Tex fabric is lightweight and yet super-tough to resist rips and tears, and it's guaranteed waterproof and breathable for ultimate protection from the elements. Fully taped seams with Gore Seam tape prevent moisture from seeping in through the cracks. The AK fit features engineered articulation to allow for total freedom of movement and it allows room to layer underneath without being baggy or bulky. Zippered underarm vents let you dump heat when you're huffing it to the peak, and the contoured hood with a micro-adjust cinch shields your head from the storm when the weather suddenly turns on you. A removable stretch powder skirt with jacket-to-pant interface keeps the snow out on waist-deep days.

Held up in wettest conditions

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So impressed by the hover jacket. Rode 4 days in unbelievably wet conditions at Mt. Hood, basically rain and sleet. The exterior face fabric eventually get wet as expected since it's just meant to protect the interior gore tex layers, but all pockets and inside of the jacket were bone dry. People were skiing with garbage back ponchos and I was just hanging like normal in the 3L hover.

This is the same 3L gore text pro shell fabric as used by Arcteryx in their top jacket, but this has far better features. Love the quality and locations of pockets.

This is also a slim fit jacket with just a little extra length which is great for boarders.

Hello - I'm athletic built 5'10 175lb and 41" chest. I own a Cyclic and Stagger in Large and they are pretty roomy. I have read that this jacket runs very big, should I go with a Medium or a Large? Thanks.

Responded on

I would disagree that it runs large. I've found this to be a slimmer fit than most boarding jackets, but would expect to fit similar than other AK products. I'm a 37-38 chest and a small has just enough room

Sick Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wore this thing through a season in the NW and was the only guy in my crew who stayed dry. Now that I'm in UT, I don't really need the heavy waterproof quality, but it's awesome to layer under and I can still wear it in spring with just a t-shirt and not get hot. It's pretty bulletproof and I've gone through many glades and brushed many trees and rocks without any clue that I'd raged it, though I'm sure if you really cranked it into a tree or rock, you'd be able to tell. I'd be more worried about breaking myself at that point. The only issue I had was when I had my first one from 2 years ago, a pocket started letting water in halfway through the season and the logos started de-laminating, but Burton replaced it with a brand new one from the current model year after a quick email thanks to that warranty. I even got to pick any color I wanted.

Sasquatch him self would love this

Burtons AK line continues to be the highest in performance and leading the industry with style and engineering. The Hover is nothing but perfection. Some new features like removable stretch waist gaiter and new Gore tex pro shell fabric is what separates this from the pack.
