Description

Don't leave your baby unattended.

Sure, board thieves are prone to ACL blowouts and other catastrophic acts of karma, but some dirtbag's hospital bill won't bring your beloved snowboard back. Keep it from walking away in the first place with the Burton Cable Lock. The retractable cable stays out of the way when not in use, and you can even operate it with gloves on during frigid mid-winter days.

Does what it's intended to do...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

...just don't have unrealistic expectations. This isn't going to stop someone with the sole intention of stealing a board from stealing your board. I cheap pair of snips, or even a strong amount of force will break this thing.

It WILL provide a deterrence, and it will prevent some punk kid from stealing your board on a whim (no one has cutters with them on a whim).

Would I buy it again? Probably not. I bought it b/c I was only a few bucks away from free shipping, so the price difference between this and shipping on my order was negligible. It is lightweight, unobtrusive, so you really don't know it's there. I used it a few times. For what it set me back, I'm happy with it.

But I would not recommend getting this as a "lock it and forget it" solution. Always be somewhere where you can at least have eyes on your board.

Worst P.O.S. ever

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The most disappointing Burton product of all time. The cable is hair thin, and the housing is crap. It either froze solid, or just got stuck internally because I couldn't get it unlocked after securing my board for lunch. Used it maybe 2 or 3 times. Had to boot-stomp it, which popped the damn thing right apart. Not very secure in the aspect.

Great lock

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great lock, great added protection, its not super thick cable obviusly but it might make your board a little less desiable and draw attention to the board next to yours that might not have a lock. Its a crazy world out there so watch your boards everyone.

Easy and Cheap Protection

I bought this lock after doing a decent amount of research and so far so good. I've been boarding 6 times this season and it works every time. The lock itself is actually really close to the size of the picture which is much smaller than expected and definitely a good thing. Setting the combination is fairly simple and once you learn how is easy to rinse and repeat.

The only complaints about this lock is the wire is a little on the short side due to the compact design. When I go up on the mountain I typically roll with at least 2 people and this can only lock 2 boards at the most to a rack. Even then it takes some creative placement to be able to pull off. Also, it can only be locked while the combination is selected so if someone REALLY pays attention to you locking it they could remember the combo while you're locking it up.

That being said it's still the best lock that I could find that is long enough to lock 2 boards and still fits in any jacket or pant pocket and I highly recommend it.

Cheap insurance

Ive used this lock for maybe 4 years with no problems. It is light and compact. You can easily lock 2 boards. Way better than leaving your board unlocked.

Terrible lock

I purchased not one, but TWO of these locks - one for my wife and one for me. I chose this lock because it was small and could easily fit in my pocket without being cumbersome. And it had the Burton name associated with it (I wrongly assumed this would equate to quality). And it was available in the ski shop when I was purchasing skis.

I wish I had taken the time to research it first and read the public reviews on this lock. Had I done that I would have chosen another brand. I've seen dozens of bad reviews stating that the lock became "stuck" in the locked position and scissors/wire cutters were necessary to remove it. On THAT ALONE I would have walked away from this lock.

My main issue with this lock is that THE NUMBERS WORE OFF. They didn't just wear off on one lock; they wore off on BOTH locks. This is after only 2 years. The lock is no longer functional if one cannot read the numbers.

Burton refused to help me out even though I sent them pictures showing the defect.

Stay away from Burton.

Does the job

By no means is this heavy duty. The cable can easily be cut with a small set of pliers; but it will at least deter the theft somewhat. I mainly bought it since it was small to use the few times the hills are jammed on long weekends.

I won't buy it

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used it several times only (the season started 3 weeks ago) and at first it worked good, but yesterday it has changed the code and I was not able to unlock it (had to use the scissors haha). I'm really not sure how it happened, I used it in cafe and it worked fine and then in the next 30 minutes the code has changed and I even didn't notice how! So I bought Dakine lock with a key, I believe it's a better option.

Good enough but needs improvment.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this lock for the pass couple of seasons. It is really only good for locking up one board but you can push it and get a second board tied in.

Lock is lightweight and compact. I just toss it in my hip pocket and forget it is there till it is needed.

That being said after two seasons it is starting to wear, cable does not retract as well as it used to and because of the way that you set the combination you can sometimes accidentally change the number by one position when you lock the cable.

works

Works!!! Any snowboarder that would steal a board from another snowboarder should be beaten to death, but it happens. With this, no one will snatch your baby.

Rock solid easy to use lock

Great lock, I'd highly recommend. I've been boarding for 15+ yrs, always hearing horror stories of boards disappearing. This yr I went all out an bought two nice boards.. so I figured better safe than sorry. This lock is extremely easy to use, easy to program, and will just add that extra safety you need for your board.

Junk

Sorry, I wanted to like this lock.

The painted on numbers wore off after just 10 days at the slopes. Lock is completely useless now. Bought the Dakine lock, seems to be made better.

Worth it...

this thing is awesome, cord is long enough to keep 2 boards locked up

horrible lock

Aside from the fact that this lock feels like a hunk of plastic that you can smash with ease, the cable on it is way too short. Maybe that's my fault for shopping online, but I bought this so the cable could wrap around multiple boards to be locked up. It barely stretches long enough to properly secure my board, let alone a second or third. The recoil spring feels like it's getting stuck already, and I haven't even used this product yet. I would not recommend this to anyone who takes locking their board up seriously.

Don't Get Jacked

Why spend you hard earned money only to let someone else use your gear
