comfortabe, but toe collapsed and crease
Very comfortable boots, reliable and really speed lace system, warm (when not wet, see below) and responsive (when now broken).
Two quite important issues (and their consequences) force me to put 3 stars and think of putting 2....
1. on the first week of ride the structure of the outer boot got creased at the toe area, see the picture. It happened both to mine Imperials, and to ones of a friend of mine. A similar situation was also reported in an other review. So, the boot lost a part of its stiffnes before one weeks of ridding!!!
2. After about three weeks on the mountain the toe of my right boot collapsed exactly as descrided in another review here. The left one is ok, but the rigth one is completely out of order!
As a minor issue (probably connected to the previous ones) I must say that the boots get SO EASILY wet on a warm day, that after just two or three hours on the slopes it is not possibe to ride them anymore - you feel yourself like beiing in a pool rather then a slope =((
I also agree with an earlier remark regarding the boot having ALOT of room in the toe box, both side to side and up and down. It irritates me a lot, but seems to have no practical effect =)
Only hope that theese issues are resolved in 2013 year model.

I rode Burton Motos before this and was looking for a stiffer boot to take my riding to the next level. On every level this boot is incredible. The new speed lace system gets better every year and this is the best yet. Super quick getting in and even easier getting out. I dont even bother loosening the boots on my break. The boot itself is super responsive, supportive and has does a good job of dampening the vibrations. No problem with warmth either. Matter of fact, it steams after a hard days of riding!
The only other things I can say is that the boot has ALOT of room in the toe box, both side to side and up and down. It doesnt affect the responsiveness though. The smaller footprint of these boots should not make you get a smaller binding size, as others had asked before.
Don't think, Just buy

I have a high foot and these eliminate any pressure points I had with previous boots. they fit true to size, I wear a US8 in normal shoes and thats what I wear in these.
The speed zone lacing is also amazing. Lets you adjust top and bottom areas independantly.
I always seem to have a love/hate relationship with snowboard boots. They usually fit fantastic and feel great, but then something runs a muck. With the Imperial it is that the toe collapses under pressure from the Cap Strap on my Cartel bindings and only the right boot!!! I don't know what it is since i have adjusted them pretty much every way possible. Very weird. Other than that the boot is sick. Upper and lower lacing system, Vibram outsole, stiff enough to ride the whole mountain, and warm! Get 'em!

seriously, awesome boots. light, grippy (vibram) & supportive but flexy. this is my second pair. had 2010-11s. first pair developed creases and tore on the toe boxes from ratcheting in the cap strap (burton custom bindings) and walking on bootpacks. this brand new pair is doing the same thing, but hasn't torn open yet. love these boots, but want to see the crease issue resolved. I guide in these boots at a well known lift-served backcountry ski area and heli op, so I realize I am hard on them. driver x's are too stiff for my style, and the ions are out of my budget. I'll up my rating to 5 when burton takes back my 2010-11 burton imperials, which I'm sure they will.

Thanks Dean. I did look at the Solomon Malamute and the Rome Folsom, both of which look stiffer than the Imperial. I just didn't want to end up with too stiff of a boot in trying to help the gimpy ankle issue. While I am not a park rider, I like to be a fairly dynamic all mountain rider.
Honestly I use the Malamute for everyday riding... its tough to really tweek the grab out because of the stiffness (if thats your MO), but I never have any issues when I need it to respond, that's whats most important to me... and the comfort... they say stiff, but don't be deceived into thinking ski boot stiff...
Another feature that the Malamute will have over the others to help your ankle is there is a strap inside that is designed to hold your heal in (its about a 1 inch strap with velcro on one end and is fixed on one side of the heel to the boot sole and wraps over the top of the ankle and through a "D" ring loop stitched into the sole on the other side of the heel and then falls back and velcros to the boot liner at the shin)... I can drop a picture if you want...

I am looking at buying the Jeremy Jones twin board or the Flagship this year and matching them with a pair of Imperials. I haven't decided on the binding yet. Are the Imperials good? I don't ride park.
Hey there, I would recommend the Salomon Malamute for the most supportive comfortable boot out there...
The Imperial is a great boot! Supportive, comfortable, and with the new total comfort technology can not be matched right out of the box. Speed zone lacing with Upper and lower laces gives you the adjust-ability when lacing up your boots that one pull cord can not. Add a vibram sole for more traction, EST cushioning, Shrinkage allowing you to be have a smaller footprint, Radpad, and then lastly, S4. The new S4 shell panels on the Imperial evenly distributes the pressure from your straps to maximize rebound and resist breakdown for consistent flex, allowing your boot to last longer.

darn. i have large cartel bindings(10+)...
darn. i have large cartel bindings(10+) and ordered these boots in 10.5. didn't take shrinkage into consideration and now im going to be stuck with small boots in big binding. did Burton take this into consideration on their binding too or am I outta luck?
Should be set. Depends on how you look at it. Can max out a Medium in size 10.5 or go with the large and have room for adjustments.

If I get a size 9 with the shrinkage footprint does that mean I should get a small or medium binding bc the small binding is up to size 8 and the med is 8 and up?

Go with the medium. More room for adjustments and better fit
