I'm looking to get a new backpack for college. I expect to be carrying a binder, a paper notebook, a 10" netbook, and a textbook depending on the professor. These bags seem heavy duty and look awesome at the same time. Any recommendations on this bag or others?

I like this one, streamlined but technical. Do it.

Hydration

Riding all day with out some sort of fluid is a really bad idea. You don't think you are thirsty but your body would tell you differently. This bag solves that problem. The Oasis pack holds up to 70 ounces of liquid. That is more than enough for a day of riding or hiking. The bag also has room for whatever ever else you would like to carry on these adventures. It also has a vertical board carry system. Really great bag.

can anyone explain the vertical board carry, cant figure it out? i have an idea but the buckles on either side are different so they wont fit together like on burton.com

If you look at the pictures above you should be able to get an idea of how the straps work. There are 4 straps on the bag, when carrying a board the 4 straps turn into 2 straps.

Almost Perfect

Good pack. It's not too bulky and you can keep the essentials in there for a backcountry day. My only knock is the spout can freeze up on colder days making it tough to get the water out of there, and the vertical carry system is a little harder to figure out than it needs to be. But other than that, it's top shelf.

does the waist strap have pockets on it?

does the waist strap have pockets on it?

Responded on

no it does not... but both the Burton Riders pack and Sled Pack do... They are also both hydration compatible (just has to be purchased separately!)

What if it's 20 degrees out? Will the pipe freeze?

Responded on

no, the only time you may have to worry about it is when you get to 5-10 degrees or below 0.... its miserable riding in those temps anyway :) Truly, I have not had problems with freezing and I've hiked to the top of 14'ers.. in really cold temps.

I had a cambelbak that wasn't insulated and when I went snowboarding the water pipe would freeze. Does this one freeze?

Responded on

nope, you'll be golden... I hike with this thing all the time in cold temperatures and have never ever had problems with freezing!

Are the bite valve and tube insulated on this pack?

Responded on

They are not. The tube and bite valve are just exposed the whole time.

Responded on

not insulated per-say... However, I have never had a problem with freezing. Its a thicker rubber tube and a thick rubber mouth piece.
