Description

Keep the Shank Pant handy. You never know when you’ll need Burton protection.

The Burton Men’s Shank Gore-Tex Signature Fit Pant combines the protection of Gore-Tex and the style of denim. Burton’s loose sig-fit and articulated knees relax your moves without causing a baggy distraction. Burton taped the Shank’s seams with Gore-Seam tape for serious weather protection. Mesh-lined inner thigh vents keep a swamp from forming in your nether regions. The Shank’s microfleece fly and waistband add plush comfort, while ghetto slits, a cuff-to-boot interface, and snap-up leg lifts distinguish you from the other inmates. - Fall 2008.

These pants say they are gore-tex.... but the waterproof rating says they are 20K... isn't gore-tex guaranteed to be waterproof??

Best Answer Responded on

Yes, but "guaranteed" and 20K, might as well mean the same thing. Which basically means you can go swimming in them and the only way water is getting in, is through the holes where your boots are and from the top of the waist. Each company tends to do their own "standardized test", but 20k is supposed to mean, that they have to put 20,000 milimeters of water down a tube (or graduated cylinder, whatever) forcing it at the fabric, for it to go through, though every company uses a different sized tube and other such slight differences.

Long story short, you should still be good in torrential downpour, best thing next to a yellow gorton's fisherman suit.

Now are the water-proof ratings on these for real? 20k? I mean I don't expect to NEVER get wet in these but are they worth 300+ dollarz for style and protection? The last review was dumb and didn't give much info..

yeah it was a really dumb review...the guy was probably complaining because the outer fabric got wet, let me explain.........

Gore tex difeinitly is completley and totally water proof, guarenteed, no matter what. but goretex is kinda like a sandwich, with three layers

...layer one, the outer layer, is just some form of water resistant fabric, nylon, poly, ect. in this case some sort of denim. the outer layer of any gore tex material can get wet, and i'd think that to be especially true with denim...that results in a soggy, wet, nasty sopping effect on the outside

...B-U-T the SECOND layer, thats the real deal, thats where the layer of gore tex is, no matter what, water cannot penetrate through the second layer even if the outer layer is soaked....and the third layer is just a lining for comfort

...so really water wont EVER get through to the rider

...aaaaaaand they retail for 450 because burton likes to overprice novelty items like denim pants, and 3L goretex pants usually retail for none less that 300 bucks. if you are into the style, want to stay dry on the inside but dont mind being soggy on the outside, then these are worth it

I got shanked

While riding powder, snow stuck to these pants like crazy! I'm pretty bummed. Also no mesh on the vents...I expected more from Burton on this product.

I ended up returning them.

Over Steez

These pants are so thugged out, I feel like I don't have enough guns to shove in the waistband. SUPER baggy. Yeah, it's August but there are some things I noticed right off the bat. 1. Baggy as hell. 2. They're actually denim-- deep blue raw color. 3. DEnim is all they are, no liner or anything so they're pretty lightweight and I'll prob need to wear longjohns. 4. All pockets zip. 5. NO MESH over the innner thigh vents-- Burton WTF? that shit's wack as hell. The venting is a detail, and the style is off the Sickter Scale.
