I was using a friend's gopro last winter season and was on the hunt for it when I found the contour HD 1080 on sale and decided to purchase. So far I am very pleasantly surprised and actually prefer it to the gopro for a few very important reasons: 1. Form factor: the contour is rounded and a bit thinner than the gopro w/ case, which made it a little scary to carry in my pocket. It is also easier to hold in your hand and feels less bulky on the helmet unless youre like that crazy guy using the waterproof case for snowboarding (not necessary) 2. Useability: the record switch is much much easier to use 'in the field' than the button on the gopro.
IMO, the gopro has some advantages over the contour (for ex/ it can take still shots; picture quality seems a bit better-warmer picture; totally waterproof, whereas the contour is water resistant sans the optional case but again, in terms of actual use, it is my opinion that the contour works better.
No. It is already water resistant so it will be able to handle the snow and rain on its own. If you want to take it swimming I would suggest getting the waterproof case, but you don't need the case for snowboarding. I would go with the Contour ROAM over this camera as it can go up to 32GB, but for this price you should be pretty happy with this camera!
Dogfunk.com knows that no one wants the used-car-salesman experience, so we decided to show you the other guys prices in an effort to keep your shopping experience as informed as possible. We do our best to confirm this information is correct, but assume no responsibility for the accuracy of the price and shipping information provided by other vendors.
Consider this purchase a mistake and going with a different camera with a different mounting system. The sound is horrible to not there. Most of the time you just get a clicking noise. The picture is sub par. My flip blows this one away. The mounting system on googles is not very stable and causes bad shakes that make the videos almost painful to watch. The picture above is ours but I would suggest avoiding this item.
copied from my review on BC: Video picture is GREAT. It shoots a very smooth HD video but be warned that it doesn't play smooth on many computers. Burning to a DVD solves said problem (or having a more powerful computer!). It got a great low profile build and mounts great. but like others have said, it is shaky n a helmet. Battery lasts a whileCons: The built in speaker sucks. It doesn't record audio well at all. While some might not see it as a big deal 1/2 the fun of watching a video is hearing what they say or what goes on. Not a deal breaker by any means but more of an inconvenienceYou have to charge the battery while its in the camerathe software it comes with sucks. Luckily we already have some great corel video editing software so its no big deal.Overall opinion so far: Great helmet camera and worth every penny. I'll link some videos soon...
and my update: Just a quick update to my review. We have since used this camera a lot more and it. the speakers are working a lot better after use. i don't know if its a break in time or what, but it does record sound a lot better. It doesn't compare to a typical camcorder but you can at least hear what is going on.
I'm still impressed with the video quality. We have an canon camcorder that is a few years old that we use that retails bran new right now for around 2 grand. And this at bare minimum compares with it quality wise.
with the 37mm filter ring, can a step,up/down ring be used to couple the camera to a spotting scope?and can the cameras lense be removed to use the cmos chip only?for ie.the same way a digital slr camera can be used with inter changeable lenses?
