I usually use my buddies, but i went ahead and bought my own. The iron warmed up quick and spread the wax over the board like butter. Its also compact enough to carry in a backpack.

Is it worth it to get this over a normal iron

You know to be honest I'm not sure if theres a difference, but once you go wax you never go back! You can no longer use your regular iron for anything but waxing. That said, this may be a lot better I just don't know.

First Iron

Overall this iron will get the job done and server as a nice replacement for whatever non wax approved iron you are using. It heats incredibly quickly to the temperature that you need to melt your wax. I generally stick just under 100F. I'd estimate it takes 10 seconds to get there. Backing it down to a lower temperature is just as fast surprisingly.

I'd say the only thing that I don't care for on this iron is that it scratches very easily. I already have scratches on it after a few uses from the base edge of the board. I would still highly recommend it as it pulls the wax evenly across your board.
