What do you mean "one size" when I am picking the item that I want? It
still is the large backpack, correct? This is because on another website that I was on they offered the backpack in one size and then in a 26 liter or a 33 liter.
The One Size is only referring to the torso measurement- in some packs it will offer a couple of different sizes. This pack is just one standard torso length, and all colors will offer the same 2000 cu in of volume!

How much will the cooler pocket hold? And does it have a chest strap?
The insulated "cooler" pocket is the smaller horseshoe shaped one at the front of the pack in the product image. As you can see, it is not huge and I would only recommend a single drink can, or a couple of Capri-Suns.
Yes, The Dakine Campus Large Backpack comes with a chest strap.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I have used and abused this backpack for about 2 and a half years, and it has definitely been the most spacious backpack I've ever had. Its fitted just about 3 3" inch binders plus textbooks and a sketchbook. Definitely a practical pack. Sadly after these 2 and a half years the zippers have come to rip and I need a new pack, and I'm definitely considering getting another campus pack. It hard to find another pack with this much space, comfort, and practicality (especially with the cooler pocket on the front!). Also it fits my 32 oz. camelbak water bottle perfectly in the side mesh pockets.
DAKINE Campus Large Backpack - 2000cu in
I bought this backpack a few years ago, I would say back in 2009. I still use it all the time! It's great for school, works well for the beach or a short weekend trip. The straps are really durable and feel nice on my shoulders. I like the sunglass holder on the top of the back as well as the little "cooler" it has in the front. It also has a laptop holder inside which I've found super useful.
I've been buying Dakine products for awhile now and when it comes to backpacks or luggage, I always pick Dakine first - all their stuff is super dependable and long lasting! Highly recommend!
This bag is amazing! We bought it to use for a bag to take out for my special needs son. The quality and durability are amazing, exceeded all my expectations. The size of the bag is pretty big, just like we needed. Space and compartments for everything but the main space w the laptop sleeve (or diaper and wipe sleeve in my case) is very very spacious! The two side mesh pockets are also sturdy and large. Holds a 8oz. (Could hold 3 at a time) without falling out even when we bend down. I recommend this bag to anyone looking for space and durability!
DAKINE does it again
I love my new DAKINE backpack. As with buying anything online you are not positive what you are going to get. I was afraid the size would not be big enough and the extra pockets would be useless. Quite the opposite. The size is perfect for anything. I travel a lot and it fits about 4 days worth of clothing and everything I need. All the pockets serve a purpose too. Weather it be work or pleasure there is a pocket for anything you have. I really think the sunglasses and cooler pocket are a nice touch as well. This is the perfect all around backpack and just what I needed.

will my 17in laptop fit?
Nice pack. Like that the laptop sleeve is suspend edge.
Bought for my 12 year old son. He think the colors are so cool and loves all the compartments. All of his school books fit, his gym uniform and his lunch box. Great choice. Durable and rugged.

Whats the differences between the black stripe and black stripe 1? there is a significant price difference, is it smaller?
A big bag for a big man - fills needs
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This bag was bought for a big dude that has lots of books to carry with him to school. He also likes to have food with him in case classes run long or he has a workout to do in the middle of the day. This bag has been able to hold his many leather bound books and keep his appetite steady throughout the day. He even commented about how comfy the straps are on for his shoulders and back. I think we have a winner ladies and gents!

My son is a rising 6th grader and his school requests drawstring bags rather than backpacks because the pack needs to fit inside the school desk during classes. Drawstring bags stink! What are the dimensions of this pack? Would it be a good alternative? Thanks.
The dimensions of the bag are 20" H x 13" W x 9" D. Would it be a good alternative? I wouldn't be able to say with out knowing the size of the desk sorry.
Probally would NOT fit.
Can anyone tell me what size laptop will this bag will accommodate? I currently have a 17" which I carry in a Swiss Army bag. But unfortunately it is starting to rip at the zipper seams because it's really only made for a 15" laptop.
Is this waterproof
Is this waterproof
Bob, nope, not waterproof but you could always add a rain cover over it. Most packs are not waterproof until you get into some high end models.
never stray from dakine
This backpack is perfect... It is big enough to hold your textbooks, as well as your hoodie, beanies, laptop, pet orangutan, crotch rocket, sleeping cot... everything. it has a really lo-profile look/feel to it as well. the cooler pocket is really nice, you can throw a drink in there and it magically becomes cold (i wish). It is super durable so you can shred, skate, or even surf if you wanted too, and it doesn't tear, or get wrecked. i love this backpack... does everything i need it too, and more!
Great for campus or the great outdoors
I'm pretty picky about backpacks, and I used to get a new one pretty much every year. However, I've been using the Dakine Campus throughout four years of graduate school, which has included throwing the pack around, trekking to and around campus on foot, camping, traveling (with my 17" laptop), hiking, and hanging at the beach. This is one of the most user-friendly packs I've ever had. The different pockets make it easy to separate books, electronic devices, supplies, and other wares. The support from the straps is also incredible - when I'm traveling, I usually have my 20 lb laptop in the case inside (the protection is great - no problems in over 200 train trips between Portland and Seattle), several books, food, beverages, clothing and makeup. Despite the 30+ pounds I'm carrying on my back, the straps distribute the weight evenly and make it feel as though there is about half the amount of weight. While it has worked perfectly for campus and traveling, I've also found it extremely helpful when either hiking or on an outing to the beach. There's plenty of room for a change of clothes, snacks for 2-4 people, and the insulated cooler is awesome - actually keeps food/drinks hot or cold. Comes in handy when you want to sit down and have a snack and cool water during a day of hiking, or when you're relaxing in the sun and want to enjoy a fresh, cool beer - the cooler section can fit a six pack of cans no problem. Overall, this pack is extremely utilitarian, looks good, and is of high quality. I couldn't recommend it more.

I'm looking for a small back pack, that looks thin, but also can hold a few books...any recommendations??
this is perfect. it is perfect size, weight, volume, everything. it holds everything. looks great. feels great. perfect for school, traveling, and causing trouble. super durable too! it can handle anything!
I really like this backpack. It is great for a college setting. One thing I wish I had was more protection for your laptop. But overall I really enjoy this backpack.
