The Sequence in it's element
hiding inside are the 7D and SL1 DSLR cameras a 70-200mm, a 10-22mm, a 17-40mm, open space for more lenses, plus my filters, remotes, etc, and my water bottle, gloves, extra fleece and various other small items, but there is room for so much more if you want, oh and ya the tripod fits nicely in a pouch and strapped to the side
Great DSLR Camera Pack
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I own several Dakine backpacks and this one is just what you would expect. Quality, durable construction, with all the bells and whistles you need. There are lighter weight packs out there, but many will not take the abuse this one will. The back panel has great access to everything inside and all the side pockets fit what you need. There is a tripod attachment and several other pockets to store the extras. All around awesome pack and value.

I got the sequence for air travel for a documentary gig. When hopping on a plane I take out the separate camera bag and carry that and the backpack (full of laptop, drives..etc) so that I don't have to check my camera and lenses. This lets me hit the ground running even when luggage gets misrouted/lost.
The build quality seems good. My Reload has held up like a champ and this bag feels similar in build quality. I use this bag for the essentials. It feels very comfortable scrambling up rocks or through dense bush fully loaded. Great deal for the price.

Does anyone know if this pack has a seperate bottom compartment for the rain cover? I have seen YouTube vids of older models having that but with the newer versions, the pouch seems to be stored in the top-most pocket.
There is a rain cover in one of the side compartments.
Not built as a ski pack

Bought this pack as our filming work horse and it has gotten beat up quick. I would agree that as a travel pack it is legit, tons of pockets, compartments and plenty of room to store all you need. However when you put shovel, probe and a pair of skin in the pack there is literally no room for extra layers, food etc. We also carry around a heavy tripod and after one season of use one of the shoulder straps is ripping out and the tripod loops are beginning to rip out (we did load the hell out of the pack, skis in Aframe, tripod, full camera gear). Fine for its price but use it is a travel bag and not heavy use.

This is an awesome camera bag. Well made and plenty of pockets.

Would a pair of skis that are 177cm long and have a waist width of 88mm fit well on the side straps of this pack? just wondering.
88mm underfoof skiis should fit just about any ski carry, so, yes
I have thrown skis on this pack and I had both longer and wider skis in there. The only problem with using the side straps for ski carry is if you have the side pockets stuffed (which is where I jam two nalgenes), it'll get in the way of using it as a ski carry system. Relocating any bulky side pocket items to the main compartment if you have room solves the issue.
Inside the bag with the Elinchrom Ranger
Holds my Elinchrom Ranger RX
This bag is doing exactly what I got it for, I needed something to hold my Elinchrom Ranger RS and A head and it does it perfect. Most of the Burton bags were too small and the Dakine is a little tight but it fits. If you're looking to carry lights this bag is big enough to do it.
Has anyone compared the comfort of the...
Has anyone compared the comfort of the Sequence againocotillo comfort of any of these: MountainSmith Borealis, Kata Bug 103 or other Kata bags with the frame or the Thinktank Street Walker Hard Drive? I know comfort is somewhat subjective, but I'm hoping that someone has advice btw the above. Thanks!
Great Backpack overall!!!
Well, I outgrew my little sling and needed something to fit all my new gear. It can literally hold everything. The only disadvantage to it is there arent enough pockets for misc things such as filters, batteries, memory cards ect. Everything I have had in/on it at one time includes:
Manfrotto 701/055XB setup
Glidecam 2000 pro
Rode Video Mic
Tons of cords
And tons of other misc gear.
Dont hesitate, its a great buy! just wish there was a few more pockets for smaller stuff!
All time travel Camera bag
I travel all the time and love taking photos of my travels. I carry a 7d, 70-300, 17-40, 50, 10-22 and a 28-135, plus three hard drives, cords, eyepiece for when I shoot video, all my nd filters and other stuff I'm probably forgetting. I also bring my computer, iPad, pens, note pad and it still has room for snacks, water, sunglasses and more. Not to mention, when you ride, you can strap up your boards easily on the sides. It's comfortable and just fits in the overhead bin. It's also pretty handy when you go somewhere skethy and don't want to bring your camera, just take out the block and you're good to go. I obviously highly recommend this pack!
Holy Bombproof, Batman!
I've fallen backwards while wearing this bag, slept on it, stepped on it, had it thrown by someone who didn't know that thousands of dollars in photog gear was inside (gah!!!), and miserably watched it being tossed around after I checked it in onto a plane that was so small that they didn't allow carry-on luggage (IMPORTANT: none of the above actions are recommended) BUT my gear has always remained perfectly intact and safely snuggled up in the impenetrable fortress that is the Dakine Sequence backpack.
I've traveled around the world with it - I take out the camera block and stuff my clothes and other belongings into the bag. The bag can be checked in but because I've had too many experiences with airlines temporarily losing my stuff, I prefer to not check in any luggage and instead I take it with me as my carry-on luggage with the camera block as my extra "purse" allowance (or "laptop bag" etc, if you're a guy). You look like just another student backpacker, so no one suspects that you're carrying gear worth more than a first class plane ticket and a few nights at a five star hotel.
The back access is excellent! Some people might prefer the sling style, but I definitely like knowing that no thieves can get to my gear. The sling style can be useful and that's why photographers tend to collect an annoying amount of bags to suit different situations, but the back access is definitely tops - ESPECIALLY if you're into backcountry riding. Just throw down your bag (rain cover optional - my bag has always survived a rest in the snow), unzip from the back, and you're ready to shoot!
I also dig all the pockets and straps for goggles, my snowboard, a tripod, snacks, lens caps, etc. This model, unlike the previous years', actually has the laptop sleeve that many have asked for. Note that I've not gone snowboarding with this year's model yet - nor have I taken my laptop with me when riding with last year's model - but seriously, you're out to RIDE and maybe take a few nice pictures, not to check facebook and post process.
Anyway, yeah. This is the second time I've bought this bag - for my boyfriend because he was way jealous of mine. The ONLY gripe I have about this is that as a 5'2", skinny (read: super wimpy) girl, this bag could sometimes get heavy. It's 5lbs alone, so stuffing it with camera gear while snowboarding (much less stuffing it with clothes and other belongings, while carrying a fully filled camera block on your shoulder, then walking for a few hours, owww) could turn it into a possibly tiring load. But that's what a nice boyfriend is for, right? ;) Otherwise, I'm pretty certain that no respectable snowboarder/hiker/backpacker can be as wimpy as me and YOU, dear reader, can certainly take this awesome piece of gear wherever you wish.
