I love the idea that the pads are removable but at the same time, they can be quite difficult to stick back in because the hold inserts are so small. As for taking impact, I don't really find it that adequate, I find my natural buttucks provides better impact absorption than the pads. Falling on my ass while wearing the pads knocked the wind out of me rather than absorb the impact. I've fallen on my natural ass plenty and I never had the wind knocked out of me like that before. I may try the d30 version to see if there's a difference.

After my first try at snowboarding and busting my tailbone and hips repeatedly -- I had a friend suggest pads. After reading a lot of reviews I settled on the Demon pads. These are a great fit, cover all the right spots, and after plenty of falls I had zero bruises to show for it.
They're really low profile as well and it's not hugely obvious I'm wearing anything underneath my ski pants.

These shorts are pretty awesome. I love that the padding is removable! It makes it easier for washing AND you don't have to wear all of the pads if you don't need to. The all out look and fit of these shorts was surprisingly cute. No one will be able to tell you're wearing these. They're not super bulky and provide enough protection at the same time.
