Volcom Bijin Jacket - Women's

Well, shells will definitely block wind and moisture, so if you layer properly you can be warm in the coldest of conditions. If you are looking for a jacket you can wear if your going for a snowy walk with some friends or hopping around town, I might suggest getting a warmer jacket. If your shredding on a 23 degree day, your going to be putting out some body heat, so with a baselayer, midlayer, and a shell, you should be OK.

If you get cold really easily, look for a jacket with some polyfill insulation, this means low bulk with high warmth!

Good Luck

This jacket fits a little big. I would say if you wear a size small Hoodie in most brands, this jacket will be a little loose on you in a medium, possibly even too loose. The extra room will help you layer if it ever gets chilly!

If you post your Height, I think most people that know how to fit jackets will be able to get a more precise fit.

Good luck!!

well, if you rocked the xl, you'll definintely have a baggy fit, but until this year, volcom's jackets always ran a little short, and by short, not long enough for us taller guys. I like a little baggy, long steez also, and I have used the Sessions Bozung jacket from 08, nomis jackets, and just picked up a volcom shandyland jacket. it seems like this year volcom made their jackets a bit longer.

depending on the exact foot print of your boot, you could get away with that waist width, especially if you ride with a ducked stance, but depending on your weight, you might want the 51. A little extra width translates into more stability: on rails, in powder, landings...etc...

I'd say if your of average weight for your height, you can rock the 48 and be ok.

Skullcandy Icon Soft Headphones

October 24, 2009

Hi joey,

Well, depending on the exact room between your noggin and the helmet, they could, but...
putting something between your helmet and your head could interfere in the performance of the helmet. Helmets are designed to work close to your skull! I rock the full metal jacket's...tons of bass, crisp highs, and they hide right in your ears! If you have space in your helmet, the safest way would be to wear a light beenine, or even add more foam to your helmet.

Hope I helped shed some light, homey

Rome Means Jacket - Men's

October 24, 2009

Hi shahi

In short,
Heck no!
lol

This jacket is a shell, for temps like that you need a jacket with insulation, possibly even a down jacket, the warmest you can get! You can layer with a shell, wear a couple hoodies or whatever, and be okay for temps getting into the low teens, but -20 to -30 is pretty damn cold, I would look into a down jacket for sure! Heres a good deal:

Hi there seamus

This board is butteriffic...very soft and playful. If you want a board that is forgiving, predictable, and buttery smooth, this board is for you. I would compare this flex to the artifact, possibly Capita's Stairmaster...all of your really soft, fun, jibby boards. With the reverse camber, soft flex, true twin shape, and carbon stringers, this equals a board that is catch-free while pressing and buttering, but still poppy and super light....super fun board!!!

Burton White Collection Transmission Jacket - Men's

October 15, 2009

hey, looks like I answered a Q of yours under nomis. I am also a big dude, and it sounds like you are tring to find a long, big jacket, no? I have searched high and far trying to find a jacket that fit right, and I found this: Burton has a particular fit called "team fit" that runs 2-3 inches longer than their normal fit, but the overall "width" of the jacket isn't too wide. I think at your size you could do a xxl team fit and have plenty of coverage. I would check out www.burton.com to see if this jacket falls under the "team fit" category...

also, the nomis sh*t has the longest fit on the market...period.

Buy a jacket, if it doesn't fit, return it to dogfunk for a refund!

good luck, my fellow tall shredder brethren

Nitro Swindle Snowboard

October 15, 2009

This is a directional twin board. Here's the break Down:

Directional boards are designed to go in one direction, therefore the have a slightly skinnier tail then the do nose. Also, the core of the board is designed to go in one direction

Twin tip boards are perfectly mirrored... equal width at the tip and tail. these are designed to go in both directions, and are optimized with a centered stance.

Directional twin boards, such as this one, have equal tips and tails, but have the core of a directional board, and your stance will be set towards the tail a little more. this means that you can mount your bindings towards the rear of the board for cruising powder, and still ride switch in the park.

This type of board is great if you like to ride the whole mountain, powder, all of the above...but if you find your self stomping floaty back ones to switch...you can ride out clean :)

Hope this helped

K2 Va Va Voom Rocker Snowboard - Women's

October 15, 2009

Hi tessa!

So, this board is right up your alley. I think you should go with a 139...shorter is more playful...for many reasons...less weight all around will help you butter the muffin, slide some boxes, ollie etc...

The cool thing about this board is its sidecut: Sidecut comes down to how much edge touches the snow at the same time. Shorter boards have less snow contact, and longer boards have more contact. More contact equals more stability....ie "riding the whole mountain" or cruising groomers etc.

This board is designed to be ridden a little smaller. It has the "edge contact" of a bigger board, in smaller sizes.

I'll never forget the first time a rode a short board....I felt like weights had been lifted off my feet!! you will love it.

Hope this helped, tessa. happy shredding!

well well well...based on your weight, I'd say you can go either route. The smaller the board, the easier it is to manuver...so I'd say, being your second year out, I would go with the 42...longer boards are better for traction at higher speeds, but can be a bit harder to get around with.

Bottom line: I would rock the 42, easier to whip around....besides....it's only 3 centimeters...

I would imagine most women specific bindings are gonna be shredtastic on this board. But the real key is your boot-to-binding interface. I would suggest buying the same brand as your boots. If you have burton boots, then go for it! The lexa's have custom gel to dampen your ride, some of the smoothest ratcheting in the business, and you have dogfunk's return policy if your not satisfied! Volcom Shandyland Jacket - Men's

October 13, 2009

Hi Tina,

The shandyland jacket is a shell, this means zero insulation, which also means you need to properly layer to match a variety of conditions. I enjoy layering, because you can use one jacket on a warm spring day, throw a baselayer and a hoodie under it, and boom, you have a super warm kit for a snowy day.

The Shatter jacket does have insulation. 60g is the weight of the insulation, 60-100 is pretty standard. Polyfill is similar to synthetic down material (real down is super warm stuff, the warmest you can get, down is composed of feathers and clusters, with the clusters being the super warm part. Synthetic down is fake down, really bulky) The advantage to polyfill is warmth without the bulk. I've ridden with polyfill jackets before, and the work well to trap heat in! If you've ever heard the words "Primaloft" or "thinsulate" these are all brand names of polyfill insulation.

Bottom Line: the shatter jacket is way warmer than the shandyland, but be careful: Some polyfill jackets only have the fill in the "core" part of the jacket, and miss out on the sleeves. Volcom is the illest around, so I would bet they have it throughout the jacket.

Sorry for the long response, but I could talk gear all day long!

good luck!

Rome Machine Snowboard - Wide

Rome Machine Snowboard - Wide

Rating for this product: 5 October 4, 2009

This board rocks. I have ridden the past 2 years models, and I couldn't be happier. I'm 6'1", about 250, and I've been riding the 157. It performs well all around the mountain, but is a bit too soft for super high speeds in cruddier snow. This problem could be alleviated for me personally with a little bigger size, but when it comes to park riding, or turning the whole mountain into a park, the 57 is on point. I can ride deep pow, carve on groomers, and hit small to medium kickers with out any problems. I don't hit any jumps bigger than 25 feet, but I could imagine at my weight, this board might be a bit squirrelly! This year i'm going to try a 159 for a little extra umph!

Nomis Touch Jacket - Men's

October 4, 2009

chances are, if there is no insulation, it is a shell. Although some shell jackets carry a heavier construction, and will be warmer then some other shells, this appears to be nylon construction...that equals lightweight. If you want this jacket, you might need to layer up under it. I recommend a baselayer, a mid layer (hoodie or fleece), and this shell over it. with proper layering you can be warm on the coldest of days!

Volcom Stoney Gore-Tex Jacket - Men's

October 4, 2009

Bruce,

This jacket, being a shell, will not be very warm. The benefit to a shell, is that you can layer under them to match a variety of winter weather. Goretex is king when it comes to water proofing...think rain gear, only more breathable. The problem with super water proof gear, is not letting your body breath, causing sweaty uncomfortableness...
Goretex solves that problem using an intricate "pore system" that keeps water out, but lets your body's "vapor" expel through the jacket.

I think if you want a jacket you can wear about town in rainy conditions, and a jacket you can rock when it's nipple deep out, this one is for you. I always buy shells, and on the coldest of days I wear a warm baselayer, a midweight breathable midlayer, and my shell!

Hope this helps!

Comfy Bindings, but not very supportive

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rome 390 Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 3 December 23, 2008

First off, I have ridden the 390 for a few years now, and they have been by far my favorite binding. I bought this years and and out of the box I was super stoked. Comfy ankle strap, more padding, and a dope color way to throw it back to the 80's. I rode them a few times, and ultimately found that I needed more support. Rome changed the ankle strap up and slimmed it down a little. If you're into rails and massive tweaks, these are for you, however, if you need a little more support (for pipe, or for whatever reason), I would think the targa's are your binding, their ankle strap is beefier and the binding is overall a bit stiffer. I sent back my 390's and are happily awaiting targas!!

dope steez, horrible quality

Nomis Simon Signature Jacket - Men's

Nomis Simon Signature Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 23, 2008

Ok, so I followed the new product trend and bought this nomis jacket. I have always support nomis, and rock plenty of their gear. It seems like they spent a boatload of money on styling and colorways, but only spent a tiny amount on function and quality. Just touching the material you can feel it's a little chincy, and, for example, the velcro is low grade, and very poorly attached. the wrist gaiters are very thick and seem like they're designed to go on the outside of your glove, versus the inside, that's a big problem when you're shredding the steepy deepys. Some positive points about this jacket: Great style, and if you are tall, this is a phenomenal fit! I"m 6'1", and this thing came down to mid thigh. If you support nomis and you like to look fly in the park, this jacket is for you. If you ride 40+ days a year, I'd look into something a little more tech.

Warning...Severely dope jacket

Volcom Intuition Jacket - Men's

Volcom Intuition Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2008

I have ridden volcom for 3 years now, and I don't see any reason to stop. This jacket is warm (for a shell) due to it's heavier bamboo weave construction. I doubt it will make a great spring jacket, due to the weight, but if you like to layer for the colder months, great buy. I like the fact that it's a wee bit kinder to the environment, and you can tell that cute snow bunny that you're just "doing your part to save our planet". Great fit too, I wear a XXL, and this jacket fits like a XXL should.

Two problems:
for a XXL, the sleeves should be just a little longer (I realize that some tall people might want to buy a XXL for the length, and the fat guys (such as myself) aren't the only people rockin' xxls.

If you live in an area that tends to deal with wetter weather (northwest, New England (me)), this jacket's material might not cut it. In the rain, water tends to stick to the jacket. You can wipe the water off, or shake it off (like a dog) but it doesn't bead off like most materials. But the water never ever seeps into the jacket, keeping you dry.

Bottom line:
This jacket is sick, comfy, and volcom is the dopest company out.
