5k waterproofing basically means, if you took a cylinder of water and placed it on the outside of the jacket, and filled it with water, it wouldn't start penetrating the jacket until it was full of 5,000 ml of water.

This is a "custom" fit jacket. It is designed after vintage motorcycle wear. It is shorter than a standard fit.

I would actually consider a XL, but definitely not a medium.

They do not fit super tight around the thighs. They are not a slouch fit in that area, but you should be fine... Just order true to your size in the waist.
