Capita Black Snowboard of Death

February 2, 2012

It's been a while since I rode a stiff Burton board on the regular, but I've tried the 2010 Custom X. I'm 6'4" also, but 10 lbs heavier than you. I'm riding the 165. It's easy to ride the '65, simply because the BSOD is so light, lighter even than the Custom X. All the weight seems to be centered between your feet, which makes whipping the board around super easy, handy in the glades. The 165 will be my everyday board, and I'll eventually replace my Gnu with another BTX board for those icy and slushy party days in SoCal, so I say 165 for big mountain riding.

I'm 6'4" weigh 220, and have a size 14 boot, and since I have a short 159w Gnu Carbon Credit for back up, I picked up the 165 BSOD. Rode this board in Mammoth Mountain one week after a storm dropped 4 feet, primarily hardpack groomers by the time I got up there. I rode the Gnu Saturday, and then the BSOD Sunday, and what a huge difference! The BSOD is super light, responsive when you need it to be, but you can control the float by leaning forward and back thanks to the reverse camber on the tip and tail. I used the recommended stance, and hauled major ass all over the mountain. I hit one patch of ice that made me regret ditching my magna-traction, but the rest of the day went flawless. Can't wait to try it in powder! Also, fairly easy to ride switch, even though it's directional.
