Gore Tex soft shell is a deceptive name, its no wamrer than a hardshell and in theory actually isnt as warm because its way more breathable....the fabric itself is no thicker than normal harshell, actually a bit thinner, and has a little stretch, and has a softer hand feel inside and out that doesnt get all clammy when you sweat...basicaly is it thin, flexible hardshell material
