It has a real rubber sole allowing you to wear it outdoors. It would be more of a casual shoe. It does look like a slipper since it is sherpa fur lined and not your typical DC skate shoe. I would recommend buying your true size if you want to wear these outside the house. If you intend to use them as slippers and want a loose fit go up .5 size.
