i'm looking for a pant that will be baggy, but go in at the knees and give it nice shape so i'm thinking i might get these in an xl. do you think that will do the trick? i don't fit into a large anyway, but would xl's be skinny or give me the look i'm looking for?

Yes, I do the same thing. I run these in a Large when I would fit into a Medium, It gives me the room I want but also the slim fit style as well. The XL should be the pant you are looking for.
