Can the 157 handle a size 12 boot without too much toe drag?

At 25.6mm, it is almost a mid wide. I would say it comes down to what you boots you are riding. If you are using a boot with a shrunken outsole (Burton Ion, DC Park, Salomon F series, Ride etc), I bet it would be fine.
