how is the shrinkage on these (with washing and drying--in the machine)? I'm wondering whether or not I should order a size up. I want a slim fitting chino, but not something really tight-fitting. I'm a size 30, and my last experience with kr3w (long ago, with the original reynolds cords back in '04), ordering a 30 ended up super tight after a few washes.

Rakin, sizing has gotten bigger on these over the past few years. You'll find that a KREW current year size 30 will fit bigger than a size 30 from back in the day. On shrinkage, they will still shrink up a little bit.
