ive been using the AK range for the past 2 seasons, and quite a lot in nothern japan (niseko) where snowstorms are no joke with 13/4 meters of snow per season. ive worn foursquare, ride, bonfire and burton's ronin in the past and all of them have been useless in anything but minimal snow showers. AK goretex gear on the otherhand leaves you bone dry and blocks the worst of the winds. I know the gear costs more than most and an AK jacket and pants can burn a 700 dollar hole in your wallet but it will be the best snow gear investment you've ever made. believe.

in january it's probably gonna get down to around -25 at the peak. it blows a gale sometimes so you need to wrap up. with the stagger you definitely need to layer as there's practically no insulation. you could get the AK down jackets but i find them too bulky and prefer to have control over my layering so that i can adjust to the weather accordingly. in niseko i normally have a good base, a mid layer, and a hoody and im good to go. oh, and get good gloves! you may be wading out of some deep stuff at some point...

Hey I'm heading to Japan in January 2011, and i just read your post but what i was wondering was what is the AK Stagger like in the cold weather because I'm in Australia and it doesnt get any where near as cold as japan. and I'm planning on getting a new jacket and pants so i was wondering if you need to layer up before heading out or anything?
