Bought this for a 10 day backpack trip through Japan. I was able to carry it on, but the length is pushing it. The top flap is great, giving easy access to the map pass. Lots of small pockets to squirrel things away. Back flap access is brilliant, but the top access leaves something to be desired - it tends to flop around when loading or digging (this seems to be standard for chimney style packs). All in all, this is a great pack for travel. Has plenty of straps to balance and compress, carries weight very well and its Dakine so you know it'll last.
