Liner in the boot is too thin allowing inner plastics to poke through creating hot spots. Boa allows you to back it off just enough so there is minimal pain, but can't wear tight. Ride boot's have intuition liners, and Salomon's are plush out of the box. Love the Boa's on the Judge just hate the low budget liner.
