Actually, they are only 1" shorter than the older boardshort standard length of 22". The direction for most companies is to go just a little shorter and take a little volume out of the leg so it has a better overall fit. It's really just a matter of getting used to it. I had the same reaction on my first pair of the "new" fit. Now I love them and wouldn't think of wearing the giant full leg model
