tiny tube BIG SOUND

By Ranked #203 - Headphones April 16, 2012

I honestly didn't expect much when I bought it, but I did expect it to be bigger. The small size (1.75" around X 7.75" long) made me expect even less. And even though I got it for during a great sale, I was feeling slighted. With the attitude of, "Oh well, let me plug it in and see how pitiful it is," I plugged the AC adapter into the wall and the aux cable into my Samsung phone. Whoa, that sounds pretty nice, much much much better than the small package would suggest. The sound is quite clean with just enough highs and mids. I certainly didn't expect much bass, and there isn't much, but for the size the bass is represented decently. So then I selected a sound with a fair amount of bass hits and low long tones and cranked it full blast. It doesn't even distort much. The really deep tones sort of disappear, which was expected. It displays a little noise but not enough to make you want to turn it down. It's more than loud enough for it's size. Easily loud enough to enjoy while cleaning a small house with all the rooms open. Overall, 1.75 thumbs up. I haven't had it long enough to comment on its longevity. Worth the money I paid, but $70 is too much.

Let it be known that my review was based on the Pipe compared to it's size and price. Of course there are way better sounding devices, but not many, if any that size and price. If you compare it to larger systems at that price, the Pipe would llikely lose. For me it is perfect for why I bought it: playing in the garage while working on stuff and for travel.
