A reliable backcountry tool
The Tracker 2, like everyone mentions, is very straight-forward and quite easy to use. One of the updates from the original Tracker is the pull-out tab to go into search mode. It makes it so simple. However, this pull out tab can create a small problem when you need to put it back into it's holder (it can get pushed in and turns back to transmit signal mode) and this is why I give it a 4 star (Why would you put it back in your holder and not be looking at it when it's in search mode? Well let's say you're on a rescue scene and need to be digging but should not flip it into transmit mode and cannot have it dangling off your body while you're trying to maneuver at a fast pace.) The strap system is also better than the original Tracker as it can fit more tightly/snugly for a smaller person like myself- so this is a definite improvement in my opinion.
Whatever brand you choose please become acquainted with your transceiver and how to operate it to the point it's like brushing your teeth. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having to use it the last thing you want is to be fumbling around.
