BOOOOO! Nickel is the only way to go.

I have both the nickel and the solid black. The nickel is cash money and doesn't chip or flake etc. But the black is another story, it chips super easy and leave little nickel spots where all the paint chips are. I would not recommend the painted versions to anyone, but the nickel finish is legit. The buckle itself is awesome, but only get it in the nickel finish.
