I picked up a pair of Ions because of all the reviews that explicitly call out how stiff they are, and that couldn't be further from the truth. The tongue and upper cuff of these boots appear to be made out of a jello-like substance, and will not support anyone's ankle through any kind of big landing. I was really looking for something I could charge hard in, and that is most definitely not this boot.
Another observation for anyone interested: The internal J-bars that are intended for heel grip are extremely mushy. I have a narrow heel to begin with, and no matter what kind of pressure I put on the liner, I couldn't get the floppy foam to grip my heel.
They are fantastically comfortable though, so, bonus points for that, I guess?
