Snowboard Review: Never Summer Heritage
By Soren McCarty

Never Summer : Heritage Snowboard

First Impression : Being a Colorado native I love that the Heritage has a Colorado Flag on it in being held in the talons of an eagle. The Carbonium topsheet looks cool and is extra strong and helps make this board indestructible. Never Summer has a three-year warranty on all their boards, this is un heard of in the industry. Hats off to Never Summer for setting the bar higher than most. This Board is their Big Mountain Freestyle board, the perfect fit for my style of riding. This board is designed to handle all aspects of the mountain and all types of snow conditions.

Weight : The board is lighter than the Never Summer’s I have ridden in the past, with their new SuperLight woodcore and Carbonium Laminate Technology. However the board is really strong, very stable and has lots of pop. The Heritage has Rocker and Camber technology, which Never Summer is famous for having on all their boards, they were one of the first to use both in their board designs and they have patented this technology, something that many other board manufactures are trying to mimic. The Heritage also has Vario Power Grip Sidecut, which makes for an extremely stable ride.

Flex : The Heritage is fairly stiff , with lots of pop, the board handles like a dream in the powder and will not wash out on ice or man made. The stiffness is key when making turns at high speed, last thing you want is a board that is going to chatter when you come across an icy spot. This board would be great for boarder cross due to the faithful nature of the way it rides. The Board is a flex of 5.5 out of 10 , 10 being the stiffest.

Turning : This board turns on a dime and due to the camber on the feet, allows for quick edge-to-edge turning with the slightest motion. For a big mountain board the turn radius is less that you would expect, making it a great board for trees, moguls and the terrain park. The Heritage lays down deep carves with ease and rolls quick from toe to heel and vice versa. The Board comes in a variety of widths in the waist of the board depending on size of board, it is also available in the Heritage X , which is wider for riders with big feet.

Control : This is the factor I was most impressed with about this board, the ease of control is impressive and the heritage has a smooth ride. From the moment I jumped on the Heritage I noticed how easy it was to control, making it a treat to ride and a great board to up the level of your riding. A board that is easy to control allows you to progress as rider, because you are not fighting for control.

Pop: The Heritage has a surprising amount of pop for a Big Mountain board , this is a great feature. Paired with the fact the stiffness of the board it is stabile when landing jumps and making quick turns. The pop is felt when doing ollies and nose rolls, the spring in both the nose and the tail give this board it’s freestyle element mixed with all mountain riding.

Switch : The heritage rides switch with ease, and make landing switch a treat due to the superior control and ease of turning. The pop also allows for ease when riding switch and going to and from switch with ease at high speeds and on irregular snow conditions and various terrain types.

Overall Impression: I was very impressed with the way the Never Summer Heritage rode, it had all factors I look for in a board. Great responsiveness, pop and stability with an element of freestyle as well. This board handled all conditions and handled them well. It was great in the trees, park , groomers, moguls and all conditions between. The board is built well and is made in Colorado a huge plus. Not that you will ever break your, but if you did, you could go to the factory and talk to the guys who built your board. With the multi year warranty they would replace it on the spot and keep you from having to call some automated help line to get your warranty serviced.
