this helmet is so comfortable. it was between this and the giro g10 mx but everyone has the g10. it is lighter than the giro and has more vents. its even nicer in person than in the photo. if u want a sweet helmet this is the one you want
I love this helmet, it has lots of venting options and if you wear it with the Smith Phenom goggles like I do then you get optimal air flow to keep you fog free. the small brim is nice late in the day when you're lining up the sunset kicker session, and it has a bomber shell that will keep you protected if you don't stomp it.
This is my third and last helmet I will ever own. Besides looking completely rad, this helmet functions great. Unlike other helmets with no adjustments, this thing can be micro adjusted for a prefect fit every time. The vents are easy to open and close, even with gloves. It is light and comfortable. Smith sure came on strong into the helmet game. Awesome!
Re: phUnk's review about durability issues: I noticed this on the early releases of this helmet (before I bought one - its what kept me from getting one at first), but Smith fixed it mid-season of 07-08 and the new one I picked up in the spring is holding up very well - it survived a few days of backcountry hiking and skiing where it was often strapped to my pack and banging against my skis.
The venting works very well and the micro brim is perfect. Just big enough to keep a little sun out, but not so big that you can't put your goggles up. It fits my noggin just fine and works fine with both goggles and sunglasses. The only thing I would change if I were the designer would be to add mesh to all the vent holes to keep snow from clogging in there when you do a head-plant in powder. Instead I just take it off for a moment and knock the snow out.
This helmets fits perfectly with Smith goggles and is very comfortable. I have a fairly large dome (7.5ish) and the large fits comfortably with a thin hat on under. Cant get over how well the Smith goggles fit with the brim, I always used to fight my Smith goggles and my Giro and could never get em perfect.
Great buy, Smith did a good job fixing the small problems with delicate parts. Don't even think about it if you are loyal to any brand of goggles other than Smiths. Obviously, not a good fit around the face.
The two vents that close/open independently are hard to use in the cold and snow. My Giro with one lever, is MUCH easier to use. The Brim also is colder at the lower back of the head than my Giro. Would also have preferred a yellow top rather than the black top for visibility in the trees.
This helmet is exactly what my son wanted -- it's great! And thank you for the great customer service; originally, I ordered the wrong style, but you made it easy to return and get the correct one. Thanks again!
best ski helmet i've owned to date. lightweight, comfortable, easy to vent and the short visor provides a little face protection for the backcountry brush here in VT!! i've got the wireless bluetooth setup which rocks!
The helmet is comfortable, adjustable, and stylish. I put it to the test twice on Saturday; once against a tree branch and once head first into the snow. It worked both times.
Pro's: Great fitting helmet with the best ventilation I've found. Very comfortable and warm and offers great coverage. Con's: Plastic bits are just too delicate. The first day I wore this helmet the goggle retainer snap ripped free from the strap. I returned the helmet and had a few months of trouble free use from the replacement. That ended when the adjustment sliders in the rear of the helmet stripped out. Nothing broke per say, but the sliders would no longer click and lock into place leaving the helmet useless as it was no longer a snug fit. Smith has a great thing with this line if they can sort out the durability of the plastic. I'll keep replacing them under warranty until they stop giving me new ones.
The other day I was mobbin' along the High-T at Alta in the kind of flat light when out of nowhere a hole appeared right in front of me and took me down. I tumbled and tomahawked well off of the traverse ending in a nice high speed fly-swatter onto the icy lower traverse track. I got up and looked around to see if the three friends I was shredding with saw me (they were all right behind me and saw the whole thing,) brushed the snow out of the brim and, a little shaken up, skied away fine. Thanks Variant.
This helmet has saved my life twice already, and I've only worn it three times. It's very comfortable, and also greta looking, unique upon the hills. Match your stuff together and you're set to go brotha.
