Vans Contra Snowboard Boot
Since 1966 Vans has been putting shoes on the feet of skaters and surfers. Their canvas shoes with gum rubber soles gripped onto slick piers and skinny skate decks like nothing else before it. In short time their waffle pattern sole and colorful uppers became synonymous with southern California board riding culture. Throughout the '70s and '80s skatedecks grew bigger, surfboards got smaller, and music got louder. It was during these fast times that Vans solidified their reputation with legendary skateboarders and original punk rockers, Tony Alva and Steve Caballero. To this day, Vans shoes have been worn to more skate missions, mosh pits and surf breaks than any other.

This is not as stiff as say the Driver X by Burton, but it is a near second. But I find the stiff flex and how well it fits to be more then comparable to any other stiff boot. Never had any problems with the BOA lacing and like using it a lot. BOA does not get as tight as I might prefer, but the stiffness of the boots makes up for it.

I have the 06/07 Contra and it's a wonderful boot. I bought this boot for backcountry riding but it turned into my main boot. The only time I don't use it is in the park/pipe. I like my boots to be stiff and very tight. This is a very stiff boot. It is as stiff as any boot I've used but when it's on it doesn't feel like the typical stiff boot. It's actually comfortable!!! Even after hiking up a mountain!!! Also I said I like my boots tight. So tight that with laces I hurt my hands tightening them and I also with laces usually end up cutting the circulation off on my feet causing them to go numb. The boa saves me from both of these problems. Not only does it get as tight as I want with the ease of 2 fingers but by wiggling your foot around while tightening it creates very even tension and doesn't create pressure points. Also, if your feet do need a quick rest it takes .005 seconds to loosen them and about 20 seconds to tighten them back.

These boots were a little stiff at first. I thought I was going to have problems with them, but once I worked out the kinks I fell in love. Easy to operate, and very comfortable. I would recommend wearing them a tad bit loose. If you like a lot of support around the ankles and a very stiff boot, these are for you.

This pair of boot is very comfortable. The boa system is totally worth it, it's easy and fast to tie up.

This may be the most rigid boot that Vans makes, but it's not as supportive as my packed-out Northwaves that have 40 days on them. The blingy metal hardware also dug into my ankles. Returned them.

Very nice and the BOA lacing tightens up nicely! A size 13 was about perfect for my size 12/5E feet... Something kept poking in one ankle but just uncomfortable and not painful...

This is an awesome freeride stiff boot. I've always liked my boots stiff, but this one is a step above. I'm not 100% sold on the BOA system yet, it seems solid, but it also seems like it may break after a few seasons. The steel lace is pretty cheap to replace though, even if it does break on you. As it stands, I love these boots, we will see what the durability ends up being like.
