I agonized about this year's goggle purchase for a long time.
I new I wanted to big (or go home right?). Electric, Oakley, and Dragon all had options on the menu that I liked; and all for different reasons. But at the end of the day the sweet minimalism of the Dragon's got to me. They fit snug (but not uncomfortable), they have great peripheral, and they don't fog (plus the frameless look is awesome).
To make it even better, I hardly see anybody rocking these on the mountain; it's nice to standout a bit and get compliments on how sweet your gear is.

What would the coal/ionized lense be the best for?
Zach Pina

The Coal is actually the colorway of the goggle itself - that black color. As for the Red/Ionized lens, this is a great all-around lens from Dragon that adds a bit of defining contrast while reducing glare on sunny days. It's decent on cloudier days too, as it transmits only 20 - 25% of light. Comparatively, a really dark gray lens transmits only 10 - 15%, while a lens optimized for night riding would be closer to 70 or 80%.

Thinking about copping these, particularly the coal / red ionized combo. I usually hit up big bear / summit or mount high. Couple of questions: 1. Does this combo come with the extra lens for low-light / night riding (if not which combo does, if any) and, 2. Are these lenses mirrored similar to those of the EG2?
Thanks for the help.
Absolutely sick!!!!!

These are probably the sickest goggles you can get. I picked up a pair from M2 sports, and got a custom package (cause the employee was the man) with Jet black frame, a red Ion lens, and a powder Ion lens. I rode them today, and i don't think they are physically able to fog. Took falls in the park, but theres no scratches whatsoever. Super Comfy, Huge Ass peripheral, and everyone asks you about them. Best $200 I have ever spent.
Great all around, except with Bern

I bought these goggles before they hit the market and I must say, the peripheral vision is really, really good. The strap also has some rubber on the inside which keeps the goggles tightly glued to your help or hat. The ONLY downside is that if you have a Bern helmet with Cotton Brim - they will push hard down on your nose! DO NOT purchase if you have that brim. Luckily I also have a Smith Holt helmet which works perfectly. Be aware, these goggles are HUGE. By far the largest I have ever seen - you will look like a fighter pilot when used with a helmet.

If you can show me a pair of goggles that are better than these ill eat my beanie! these goggles give you the most vision possible by having the domed lenses and not having a frame wrapping around them. and because there is no fram, swapping your lenses are easier then ever, the best part of these goggles is the anti fog technology, and not to mention the non slip strap with the rubber on the inside. this is nice because you never have to worry about your strap falling or slipping with or without a helmet, these are a large goggle and i know some men that have smaller faces have used to women's APX goggle, they look the same but smaller

I ordered the DAP-Japan/Eclipse and they are sweet looking (love the mirror black lens). It's misleading if you go to the dragon website, cause they make the eclipse lens look like it is matte black. The lens is big, great sight ability.

How does the black look on the lense? Is it a dark dark black? Or more of a lighter see-through black? Thanks!

Night Riding..............
Hi would the Powder/ Ionized be good for night riding?
Zach Pina
Member since
The Ionized Amber lens is best suited for heavily overcast days, and fading afternoon light (good contrast, glare reduction properties), but not necessarily for night riding. I would recommend a Clear, or a Yellow lens for that. Swoop here: http://www.dogfunk.com/dragon-apx-goggle-replacement-lens

Carlos,
Of the 3 lenses offered with this goggle, the Powder/Ionized would be better than the other 2. However a clear or yellow lens would be best for night riding.

They come with a hard case (pictured above), but spare lenses are not included, instead being sold separately here: http://www.dogfunk.com/dragon-apx-goggle-replacement-lens
