Giro Shiv Helmet - 2009

With riders like Antti Autti, Andy Finch, and Gretchen Bleiler wearing the Giro Shiv Helmet, you know this skate-influenced brain bucket will protect your skull without making you look like an egg-headed tool. The interior sub-liner allows you to adjust the padding or remove it completely to make room for a beanie. Run your goggles on the inside for an even lower profile look.

  • In-mold shell construction reduces weight and overall bulk by fusing the outer shell with the impact-absorbing foam liner
  • Super Cool vents pull fresh air in and push heat out for better temperature regulation
  • Removable vent plugs
  • Removable ear pads
  • Compatible with TuneUps systems

Bottom Line: Keep a low profile and lay down some solid sessions.

This is a Super Helmet. I bought it for my 5 y.o. son. He wears the XS/S.

Every helmet I've had before this one (Giro bad Lieutenant and Bern Must) has been able to shift forward and back a bit on my head and it drove me crazy because no matter what I did I never felt like my helmet fit quite right and then this one popped up on Brociety this fall in the audio version. I thought what the heck, it looks good and if I don't like this any better I'll send it back so I pulled the trigger. For me, a person who apparently has a shortish head front to back, this helmet fits perfect. Super happy with it. Only thing is the earpads (I dunno about the regular ones, but the audio ones) don't seem to pop out. That's my one single quibble though.

I know Giro has removable earpads on most of their helmets. Is this one of them?
And if so, how?

wait- figured it out.
Just have to unhook the straps from the pads (any logical person with eyes can figure that one out), and pull really hard, straight out. Unless you feel the foam tearing, then just pull. I was a little timid at first, not wanting to break my new helmet, but you honestly just gotta put some effort in...
