Rev the throttle and duck the ropes.

With its distinctive visored profile, the Giro G10 MX Helmet has become the signature headwear of the backcountry stormtrooper. Slip it on, dial in the In Form fit system, and send it ‘til your ears bleed. A lightweight EPS hard foam liner protects rapid-firing neurons from inconveniently-placed trees, rocks, and other immovable objects, while the hard polycarbonate shell brushes off the everyday wear inflicted by the bed of your pickup. The removable moto-style visor keeps both sun and fast-moving branches from reaching your face, and 14 adjustable vents keep your cranial temperature regulated. Giro’s Goggle Notch channel keeps your goggles in place, and you can add the TuneUps audio system (sold separately) to bring Jerry and Page along for the ride.

Comfy as

I tried on several helmet brands when looking for a helmet but the Giro was the clear stand out. The G10 MX is very comfortable and fits very snug. I especially like the rotating wheel at the back of the helmet that allows you to adjust the fit. I got the 'white' and it's a little bit of a grey white colour.

I have used this helmet for three seasons in Japan. I do mostly backcountry boarding. Its awesome. Its comfortable, adjustable, you can get to the big switch that opens the vents even with mitts on and it integrates well with goggles. Also, most importantly for sake of argument somehow while scooting along on the hardpack you got distracted because you were checking out a pair of attractive chicks you lost concentration, caught an edge and stacked it epically at speed it wouldn't let you down. When in February did this I am told I managed to pitch pole twice and during the excitement somehow do a 360 head spin thankfully the Giro stayed on and kept my brains where god intended -- though my pride suffered somewhat :(.

In short can't recommend it enough. It keeps your head together (even when you can't). It fits well and from the moment you put it on you forget you are wearing it and you can concentrate on the boarding.

What a great helmet

This is the first helmet I own. After a full season with it I have grown to like wearing it (at first it was weird skiing with it on). I have tried on lots and lots of helmets and they are either terribly uncomfortable, make me look like a bobble head, or a mix of both. This helmet is COMFORTABLE. Even crashing on it doesn't seem to hurt that bad. I had horrible pressure points when trying Smith helmets and cringed at the thought of taking an impact with it. But with this guy, it is the next best thing to wrapping a pillow around my head. The G10 MX is the only way to go in my opinion. The G10 sans visor looks dumb, along with any non-visor helmet. But that just might be me.

What happens with the visor if you face plant on hardpack? Is it likely to be damaged, or does it just move out of position?

Responded on

The visor is removable so you have a good chance of it just popping off but it's going to depend entirely on how you fall on your face.

Excellent Helmet - watch goggle compatibility

The helmet itself is fantastic. Very comfortable, great fit, nice adjustability in fit and venting.

The opening comes down just a smidge too far on my forehead and pushes my smith turbofan goggles down my nose. The contact looks to be right at the fan and at the outer edges. I don't think this would be an issue with a smaller goggle frame.

Great helmet

Fantastic looking helmet. Visor is great for those sunny days.

Solid Helmet

Let's see. The G10 is the light, very well vented, and it fits like a charm. There are some pretty good dents in mine, and it doesn't effect it all. It's a helmet, plain and simple. Does it's job with good weight and style.

Breathes Great

Fist the positives. The helmet breathes great, is super light weight and has adjustable vents that keep you warm on the lift and can let out some heat if you decide to hike to a side country stash. As far as features i would like improved, for the most part the helmet is comfortable, but the adjustable strap in the back of the helmet is slightly uncomfortable against the head. I just switched from the Giro Omen, which had a neck roll in the back, that was much more comfortable. Also the ventilation thermostat is very difficult to adjust with gloves on.

I love the functionality of the brim for skiing in the woods, but one unforeseen minus is that I can no longer lift my goggles and put them on my helmet for tram rides and quick trips indoors.

Good helmet

White with titanium dada...Very comfortable... Warm, no need for supplemental head warmers underneath the helmet (which I notice many others are using with other brands where I ski)... Visor works well and my goggles easily slip over, not an issue for me. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.

One of the best brim helmets

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had a G10 MX (Matte White) for 5+ years now and don't love it as much as I used to. While the micro adjust feature allows for an exact fit, I've found that landing drops over 10' (or landing hard) can cause the snaps that hold in the micro-adjust to pop out, making the helmet instantly bigger and causing it to fall down the front of my face.

The helmet breathes extremely well with all of it's vents (easily closed even with gloves on via the slider on the top of the helmet). The brim keeps branches out of my goggles and the ear pads come out easily for spring time. The goggle strap snap broke on me (I've since replaced it and haven't had further issues) but I have found I don't really need it with Crowbars, or likely any other goggle with a rubber inside to the strap.

While Giro has vastly improved the micro-adjust system on the newer helmets (I have a bike helmet which I am very happy with), the G10 MX has been discontinued and there isn't really a similar brim helmet offered.

I'll likely be looking to Smith for a replacement (Vantage).

Great Helmet

Love this helmet. Very protective, but not super heavy. Fits well with most goggles. Ventilation is great. Warm helmet and you don't need a hat.

Amazing Helmet

I don't know about you guy's, but I prefer my helmet not to feel like a hat. I've taken some hard falls with this helmet and it doesn't break open or hurt your noggin. It's not a super heavy helmet, but its nice and snug and definitely is very protective. The venting works pretty good, not the best. The visor is very nice for blocking off the sun and is pretty easy to take off for days you don't ant it. It's also pretty hard to break the visors.

Awesome helmet

Love the safety of this helmet. I had just bought a brand new pair of Smith goggles when my husband ran over my ski bag with the car, not once but twice. The goggles were located inside of my helmet and my helmet protected them. The helmet has only a small crack (which means I will need to replace) but the goggles weren't scratched. Love everything about this helmet!

Great Helmet. First Choice.

I have been skiiing for over 15 years and finally decided to get my first helmet this year. I chose the Giro G10 MX after comparing it to a Giro G9 that a friend has. The G10 MX arrived in Matte Primer Grey finish with exceptional good looks. With the adjustable back-band, the helmet fits snug to your head and is not heavy or overweight.

Some reviews reference the inability to place your google on the helmet due to the visor. I have not found that to be a problem. I have also found that when your googles are connected to the helmet, it makes it extremely easy to remove both the helmet and googles at the same time.

I am extremely happy with this helmet and look forward to getting back to using it next season.

Nice Helmet

Very comfortable but sometimes the padding comes off of the adjustment system which is a little annoying. Other than that, this helmet is great and I think it looks cooler than most helmets out there ;)
