Great Basic Mellon Protection

I am 44 years old and the thought of wearing a helmet took awhile to become appetizing. So, when I decided to add a level of safety to my skiing, I bought this helmet. I like it! It sits on my head just fine. When I adjust for "hat days" or "no hat days", it is a simply spin of a dial. Not sure what else I would want.

Helmet

Great basic helmet, good venting, great shape, not too bulky.

I returned my Giro Nine.10 Helmet.

I was within sizing guidelines for a Medium. There was room to dial in the fit around the circumference of my head, but the dome of the helmet was uncomfortably tight. No room for a lightweight balaclava or anything else under the helmet. Hindsight suggests that it is probably better to try different helmets on in a store, since proper fit is very important and very personal.

The velcro flaps that cover the vents in this helmet seem pretty cheesy. They might work for someone that never wants to adjust the vents while skiing, but they would be really tedious to change while skiing. Take off the helmet, take off your gloves, futz around with the little velcro flaps. For a better venting solution, check out other helmets like the Giro Seam, or just buy a helmet with no adjustable vents if that's what you really want.

Kudos to Backcountry for making the return process very easy.

Not Impressed

Really not impressed with this helmet right out of the box. So unimpressed I returned it without even trying it on. My old Giro Nine had a switch to operate the vents and nice think rubber plugs for the vents that were not controlled by the switch. This helmet has flimsy flaps that don't cover the vents sufficiently and no switch to control the ventilation. I'd be seriously worried about air leaks using this helmet.

Nice Bucket

This helmet is warm, fits well on the head, and as far as I can tell has some pretty good shock absorption. Luckily I haven't tested it extensively on a big jagged boulder, but it has saved me from some seriously headaches. The flaps fold in to let air in on a hot day, fold out to cover up the holes for the cold ones. Best feature is the fit system: the adjuster wheel in the back makes it easy to tighten to your skull.

What exactly is the fit adjustment?

The Nine.10 helmet has Giro's In Form Fit system. There's a dial that allows you to adjust the circumferential size by about 6cm. You can also adjust the length of the straps.

I bought this helmet after i broke a red theory one. its a light helmet imo, customizable vents very usefull, the earpads are removable so it can be also used for mtb in the summer.
