Description

If it gets any darker, it'll be the none more black series.

The Dark Series predates dust and cobwebs, but don't think for a second that it's anything but cutting edge. Lib Tech just gave it an update in the form of the Darker Series C3 BTX Wide snowboard. Lib's new C3 BTX camber dominant profile is on full display, giving you the benefits of Banana Tech, with the power of a traditional cambered board. Plus, it's got Magne-Traction edges for edge hold on ice, and the Bamboo Throttle for extra control, which makes this the stick of choice for big footed freeriders who charge harder than the rest.

The Darker Series is built on Lib's C3 BTX profile. That means that it's overall cambered from tip to tail, with a mini-rockered section between the feet. If you lay it on the ground, the tip and tail touch, and the sightly rockered section between the feet doesn't. Yeah, we know that sounds strange, but take our word for it, the result is all the cambered power and edge hold that you love, but with a bunch of extra float, and more grip between your feet. It gets better with Magne-Traction edges, which place seven strategic bumps along the edges. The bumps are bigger between the feet, which concentrates most of the grip there for a ride feeling that's a lot like a skateboard. The nearly-twin shape has a half inch of setback, for directional shredding, without sacrificing switch landings or takeoffs.

The bindings mount to the Bamboo Organic Throttle riser plates, which radiate out into the core to give you more direct input to the board. The Columbian Gold core uses sustainably harvested wood for a board that's light, and snappy. Power Transfer internal sidewalls crank up the durability, and they're buffered by UHMW external sidewalls for impact resistance. The Co Sint sintered base is the fastest in Lib's lineup, and it holds a bunch of wax to keep you flying around the mountain. Best of all, you can rest easy knowing that your snowboard was built with eco-friendly materials by snowboarders with jobs.

hard charging freeride deck

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

purchased 164 wide. similar dimensions to the t. rice 164.5. rider weight: 210, 11.5 boot. riding burton diodes and salomon malamutes. I'm coming off the t.rice hp version with c2btx.

Pros: stable, fast, and DAMP. Tons of pop. Not as catchy as a normal camber board. It has a trapezoidal camber profile with very minor banana/rocker. Makes for a very stable caving board that attacks ice, groomers, chop and ruts. Very smooth board. Requires rider attention, but delivers exactly what you want it to do. At 210 lbs, I can butter it, but with a little more effort than the t.rice. The bamboo plates are the bomb. I wish they were on the t. rice. Rides switch well. With a stiff nose and tail, it is nearly impossible to go over the handlebars in pow! C3 makes c2btx feel like a dead banana....C3 brings life back to banana!

Cons: not as easy in powder or when riding flat as c2btx. Not comfortable when trying to ride lazy- it will remind you to focus. c2btx is amazing in pow and is effortless. C3 is not as good, but still better in pow than full camber. With 0.5" set back it helps the deck float better and put rider weight into carving.

Bottom line: full on all-mountain destroyer. what a great ride for every condition! I forgot how much fun camber can be. This takes the best of camber and reverse camber. While not as good as c2btx in pow, the stance dimensions and setback stanch allow for a Jeremy Jones style riding when it's deep. This deck just rips apart everything in front of it. I find that c2btx is more forgiving when riding lazy at the end of the day compared to C3.

All mountain Killer board

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

let me start by saying "support america and yourself". one of last board companies that is still making here. if they are producing abroad for 1/3 of the price and still overcharging you then screw them.

past that, this board is the best i've ever ridden. it's light and responsive. i love the new rocker/camber combo they've been using. it's a mid wide that i can still put my size 12's on and ride hard (no toe drag but also not a heavy beast like the wides used to be). it's got great float and has let me shorten my board length a few cm's from what i used to ride.

ONE LAST POINT-MAGNE TRACTION!! the design is sick and really holds all the time. i used to ride the east coast which is nothing but ice. everyone out there should be riding libtech or gnu. now i'm riding here in utah and there isn't as much ice obviously but it's still good to have.

how is it in pow? Does the C3 cause nose/tail to sink? How is it riding switch with set back stance? thaks!

Responded on

sorry ddegraff,
i'm actually riding the older version with the c2btx so i'm not sure about the new c3. i can testify that the c2btx felt amazing when compared with just old straight camber. the c3 does have a lower tip and tail so thats a great question.
