It may be out dated..
I had over 12 years of boarding under my belt when i desided to get the Skate tech... and in all that time i never broken a bone. This board had such pop! it was awesome... i can't see why i would get a different board. The only problem i have with the board is how many people have it now... its like the live strong yellow bands... it just a phase...
Riding has never been soo fun
This board is on its own different level. It takes about a half day to get used to the feeling of riding off the center of the board because its feels very loose in the beginningbut it is very easy to get used to. The rocker makes switching from edge to edge super easy, and the magne-traction holds an edge on EVERYTHING! Hard pack, Ice, and choppy groomers will no longer ruin a day of riding. Since the past 5 trips to tahoe my riding has improved greatly because of the ease and comfort level the board provides, feels just like riding a skateboard. The only shortfall the board has is that it starts to feel a little bit unstable at higher speeds, but nothing terrbile. The board has amazing pop and flexability. It butters, presses any jibs you throw at it with ease and precision. Definetly the funnest board ive ever ridden hands down. Save up your money because this board is worth every penny.
it look wicked sick just too bad its expensive.
Does anyone know what the factory bevel,...
Does anyone know what the factory bevel, side and base, is on a skate banana, I can't seem to find it on their website?
3 degrees i believeIs that base or side or both, sorry i forgot to specify above?
AWESOME TO THE MAXXX!!!!!!
This board is sick!!!!!!! When I got this board, my skills increased a lot. This board has like very good handling and it is a lot of fun to ride. If you are going to get a new board, you should get this one because it is AWESOME TO THE MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wear a 11.5 boot size. Will this board...
I wear a 11.5 boot size. Will this board fit me, cause lib tech site says it s for 8.5-10.5.
Not a great idea. The board is over rated. IT is only good for sloppy riding. If you do not have much skill and don't care about building any go for it.don't listen to this douche bag! try it out on your own, people hate on brands for the dumbest reasons... Lib has several models that has the BTX-MTX combo in a wide. I've ridden the Trice, TRS, and Skate Banana, they are all great boards! "there's no sloppy riding, only sloppy riders!" Ocho Lopez you're a certified douche!
skate banana, w/ burton freestyles?, good...
skate banana, w/ burton freestyles?, good set up for a beginner
Because the skate banana has magne traction and reverse camber it can be a very unique board to get used too and can take some time. I would recommend a regular camber board with no magnetraction for starting out. After that you can decide from their if a board like this is for you. Just a thought^I couldnt disagree more^, no offense to the OP, the BTX makes the board much more manageable and versatile.... and jibbing nature of it makes it much more forgiving - doesnt catch edges as easily and its very flexible.... its my gf's first year riding and she tries to steal my nana every time she goes w/out me... she loves it, its a great first board... beware though, people will expect great things if they see you on 1 of these....
Take me to the pow
Just had a week in Austria on my new Skate Banana. Have to say that it was awesome. i was slightly concerned that I'd fallen for the hype and that the board would disappoint. It didn't. There's tons of pop and it's almost impossible to catch an edge. It really comes to life on powder tho - easy to move and nigh on impossible to bury your nose into the white stuff. Loved it and def recommend. Still don't love the graphics tho ;)
I've been ridin' for approx 19+ years, I've ridden just about every brand you can think of... from Burton to Flow to Santa Cruz to Salomon and now I think might be on the ONLY brand of boards that I'm willing to spend money on... LIB TECH! WOW! this board is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
My current set-up is 08-09 Lib Tech Banana 159 w/Union Force bindings. Here's what I think about the board:
-the Mag-Trac cuts through EVERYTHING like a hot knife through butter. the edge hold on this board is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I spent the whole day riding from POW in the mornin' to tracked out icy groomers yesterday (12/25) this board just KILLS any and every terrain!!!
-the BTX/Banana is noticeable but not a distraction. it's definitely a "looser"(is that a word???) board to ride, lot's of pop and SUPER FUN!!! this board is a little bite softer than I'm used to but with the combo of BTX and Mag there is minimal chatter when you're bombin' down a hill.
I have a few different types of boards in the "quiver" right now and I think I'm goin' to sell most of them so I can pick up a TRS 159. my only complaint is that the board feels a little clumsy in tight spaces, then again, it could just be me not used to the way this board rides... let me put a few more days in on this thing and I'll write another review.
Bottomline: AWESOME BOARD!!! SUPER FUN TO RIDE!!!
Would the 159 be a good choice if I am...
Would the 159 be a good choice if I am 6'1" 205? Or are there any other boards w/ this technology that would suit me better? Thanks
I'm 5'8" 190 and I ride a 159 LIB Banana just fine, I "think"(please correct me if I'm wrong.) the BTX (Banana Tech) allows you to ride the board 3cms shorter. I rode some pow (the NW Cascade Concrete) today and it handled fine.I think the TRS or Trice or Lando 161 might be a better fit... again, correct me if I'm wrong!
This Board is BANANAS!!!!!!!!!
I rode this board 5 times this season 08/09 already and let me tell you each time I ride this board my riding gets fresher & fresher. This board really does it all from butters, manuals, nice pop & the magne-traction really does work dope board for real......I do have to admit that this board does take a day or two to get used to if you never rode a reversed cambered board but after you get use to it the board is just straight BANANAS FUNNIEST BOARD I EVER RODE IN 10 YEARS OF SNOWBOARDING
this is the sickest bord ever at 1st wen u get it out of the box it feels kinda stiff and really heavy(not old never smmer) but wen u ride it, holy shit son, it is so soft and buttery easy to do anything with and the swing wieght is non i got a 5 for ma 1st spin..... please do urself a favor and buy it!
dont listen to that bs about the tips this year they are reinforced and good to go. i cannot put into words how amazing this board is. It is very rare that such a product comes along and actually makes you a better rider. i can hang butters longer manuals are as easy as lifting up my foot pop is incredible and you do not catch edges on this thing is AMAZING!!! a 100% must buy my cap is off to you lib tech
I rode three boards yesterday all with banana tech and Magne traction. I rode the 159 trs, the 158 Dark Series, and the T.Rice 161.5. Being a snowboarder for the past 17 years I have to say, holy s^#!!!, Good Job Mervin!! All these boards rode tremendously well. Buttery but still held up at speeds and on ice. I really want to mount one up on a deep powder day here in Steamboat. I'm 6'1 215 lbs and really put these sticks through the ringer. They all consistently performed well. I'm sold, will most likely pick up the TRS or Jamie Pro. Most times I take Public Enemy's advice but in this case no way, Believe the hype!!
The best board I've ever ridden! (full year on last year's model)
Hey all, I picked up last year's model board and rode it for a whole season... this is certainly the best board I've ever been on. It's an absolute quiver killer; whether you want to ride pow or park, this board will do it all.
Some people on here mention issues with tip and tail peeling. It's not Lib's fault that some people run into trees... I've been riding Lib for years, and I've never had a board de-lam on the tip or tail. I wouldn't concern myself with such nonsense if I were considering trying out a banana!
Yur Trippin, I rode The banana all season, and I can safely say it is the best board I've ever ridden. Don't get me wrong, I did encounter similar problems with the tip and tail de-laminating but other than that it was an awesome shred stick. The issue is a simple fix, just use some epoxy and your good. And boards always get better with each season, so expect great things from the 08/09 version. K2's are shitty, trust me, I ride hard, but my friends do not. two of my friends broke two K2s each, in one season. DO NOT BUY A WEAPON, OR DARKSTAR.
Good luck to all the competition out there to make something as innovative as this that actually works as good as the Banana rocker! Here's the thing.... The Banana is kind of a basic construction, so if you're a killer shredder, it may be worth it to you to spend a couple extra bucks on another board with the banana rocker like the TRS, or Phoenix.
It will ride as good or better and it will hold up better under all the stress a talented rider will subject their board to.
Be careful of peeling
I had a good time on my Banana, the only problem that I encountered is that mine started to peel at the tips.
the future of boarding
There are always "advancements" in riding gear each year. Usually these things (baseless bindings for example) are just fads and soon go away. This is not the case with Magne-Traction or reverse camber. Anyone whose been on a Magne-Traction board knows theres no going back and now reverse camber just ups the ante. The banana is the most natural and responsive board i've ever ridden. Its got crazy pop, awesome pressing flex, kills it in the park, and backcountry pow. All you have to do is look at the industry and see the other companies trying to catch up. Rossi Bataleon K2 and Salomon are all adopting either reverse camber or their own version of Magne-Traction. Welcome to the future....
