Description

Now with more float.

The true twin Never Summer Proto HD Snowboard packs a ridiculous amount of technology to help you slay the entire mountain equally and without mercy. The Proto HD gives you equal parts power and forgiveness for handling snow conditions ranging from boilerplate ice sheets to blower, snorkel-worthy powder, and its twin shape means that you can take your tricks from the park to the backcountry.

New for this season is the Extended Transition Rocker Camber profile, which takes Never Summer's patented RC technology and makes the transition zones longer, resulting in more fluid turn initiation and increased float in powder. Carbonium Laminate Technology uses an advanced carbon matrix in the fiberglass to reduce weight, while also increasing response and strength. The Carbonium Damping System (CDS) uses rubber foils to absorb vibrations without sacrificing response to smooth out the ride. Meanwhile, Never Summer's signature Vario Power Grip sidecut uses additional contact points to help you hold and edge on the iciest of slopes.

  • Rocker between the inserts with camber outside the bindings and extended transition zones
  • Twin shape
  • Vario Power Grip sidecut
  • Carbonium laminate and Bi-Lite fiberglass
  • CDS dampening system
  • NS Superlight wood core
  • Durasurf XT sintered base
  • Carbonium topsheet

This board is SICK!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Easily the best thing I've ever ridden. And I say that after only using it once. This season in the East has been terrible and the day I took it out I only hit groomers that were mostly skied off hardpack/ice. This board was freaking unreal even on those crap conditions. I was bombing it and carving HARD. Switching back and forth from edge to edge at a high speed even on ice and it was PERFECT. If you ride all mountain and are looking at this just stop looking at anything else and buy this.

Love at the first sight

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

What a quality built board. I love the carbon fiber woven top sheet, the graphics are sick too. The camber pockets on this board allow you to take it from the park, to the groomers, and straight to the backcountry on a pow day. I have hit 30 ft cliffs, 60 ft booters and ripped down the out back of keystone on this board and it performs phenomenally across the board.

What impressed me the most with this deck, is how fast it lets you transfer from edge to edge. Highly recommend this deck

Best one around

Favorite snowboard hands down, nice smooth ride, great for going fast, very forgiving on big jumps, great in the powder, great on the hole mountain!! its Aslo a shocker of how good it is in the park! great on rails and boxes and the design is wicked cool. Well worth your money.

Serious All Mountain Slayer

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Finally I got to see what all the hype was about!
I was able to demo the hell out of this board last week up at Brighton, UT and I was seriously blown away by the Proto.
Right off the bat, I could tell that the sintered base on this board was FAST, it felt like someone was pushing me down the hill.
Another stand-out feature was the CDS dampening system. Where other boards might slip and slide around, the Proto grips the snow and slices through crusty, tracked out snow.

The true twin shape makes this a blast to play a round on. A medium flex is supportive enough for when you're craving the need for speed, but will still allow for playful jibbing. Reverse camber between your feet gives you the playfulness while the positive camber outside of the bindings gives tons of pop.

If you're looking for a board to do it all, you should definitely keep the Proto HD in mind.

What is the lightest weight rider that could work a proto? I have someone 12 yrs old in the 90-100 pound range who likes to ride all mountain. Youth boards are no longer cutting it for him. Wondering if this would be too much for him.

Maybe consider the Evo 4. - its softer than the Proto...And available in a smaller size. Even though height doesn't really matter as much as weight consider what type of riding he'll be doing MOST, if its park, don't go too long. If you go to long He'll be on a board that has too much swing weight for spins wont jib easily etc., not to mention turn initiation maybe more difficult, If he's a balls to the wall rider like to straight line then consider longer. I'm fortunate enough to have a quiver for my own needs. for my kids I try to keep it easier to control and give a little room for growth.

Consider also - T Riper 136-141 ish

Killer Deck!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This board is awesome. I demoed last years Proto a couple of times and I fell in love with it. I bought the 2013/14 model for this season and In more than impressed. They made a few changes from last year. They added dampeners on the tip and tail, flattened/extended the tip and tail, and a couple of other small things. This a perfect deck for someone that likes to ride EVERYWHERE on the mountain. This board is about as bomb proof as its gets but that's what you get with Never Summer.

Absolute Domination

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've heard loads of hype regarding Never Summer boards before I was able to mount up on one of these bad boys. The camber profile on this board is technical but also can be enjoyed by less advanced riders. It has a ton of effortless pop and is super lively yet forgiving. The carbonium top sheet is not only bomb proof but adds some torsional stiffness and also sheds snow like a champ so you don't have to pack around those extra pounds. The Vario Power Grip sidecut gives you some extra grip without feeling "hooky". The base of this board is made from the top of the line Durasurf XT material which can take a serious beating and yet it flies down the mountain. Backed by a 3 year warranty, these guys mean business. I would HIGHLY recommend this board.

I've got the 2012 version and it's a true all mountain board. Riding switch is has the exact same feel. The only caution is when ordering you might want to size down because of the longer effective edge. I've taken this board to the Ice coast, CO, and Whistler, and it rode great all three places, except the deep powder at Whistler. I'm really liking the 2013 upgrades, and am thinking about getting it if it does better in deep pow.

Hey Stephen,
This board should actually do a lot better in pow. They made that new extended transition zone camber specifically for that reason, and the carbon additive will make it lighter hence more float! Think they heard complaints about that and changed it up for the new boards!
