Oakley Plutonite lenses are nearly indestructible under normal use. But let's say you leave your Crowbar Goggles on the roof of your car and they fall off and get run over by a semi, these Oakley Crowbar Replacement Lenses get you back in the saddle with minimal troubles. Oakley's patented XYZ Optics provide correction along three axes and increases contrast in flat light and glary conditions for astounding visibility across your entire field of vision. The Plutonite lens material also offers superior eye protection, blocking 100% of all UV.
Bottom Line: Next time, don't leave them on the roof of the car.
blue should be ok. i've ridden at night with black iridiums and it was fine but i prefer my yellow lenses in low light. also, ALL oakley lenses block out 100% of UV light. the previous answer confuses blocking overall light transmission with blocking UV light. UV light is invisible to the human eye and any quality lens should block out 100% of UV.
generally, iridium lenses are meant for daytime riding, as they all offer varying amounts of UV light filtration (fire iridium having the highest I believe).
For night riding you'll want a more clear lens (HI yellow, clear, or pink will do fine, even Persimmon)
I got the Danny Kass Fire Iridium. They look great & have awesome clarity but they are too tight on the bridge of my nose & they were restricting my breathing. I have a fairly narrow nose so I don't know why they are so tight. They also irritated my cheeks & caused a slight rash. I've since changed to Smith Phenoms & couldn't be happier. I gave the Crowbars to my teenage son & he loves them.
What is the difference between the Fire Iridium and the Polarized Fire Iridium (besides the obvious). I'm contemplating on buying one of the two, but I wanna know if the polarized counterpart is worth paying twice the price for.
I'm looking for a lens that acts well during the bright days but also helps to contrast decently during the snowy/overcast days. Thoughts?

the lens of the crowbar is functionally the best part of the goggle. everything looks incredibly clear because of the HDO optics, and they snap in and out with ease for lens-switching. I personally use the fire iridium and HI yellow for bright and cloudy days respectively. I used to have a black iridium lens too that was great for bright days. I recommend the crowbar and all its lenses 100%.
another sick lens that dogfunk does not carry (or is out of stock) is the ruby clear lens. It looks like a regular clear lens from the inside, but has a red mirror on the outside. Sweet!
persimmon lens is ok, and thats it...it doesnt excell in any condition but doesnt lack in any either, except one...ill just go over the spectrum -BRIGHT SUN: stay away! this is not dark enough by far, after a bluebird day everything looked pink...i immediately went and got a darker lens -STORM/SNOW/FOG: contrast is laughable but at least the lens is light enough to see in those condtions, the mountain wont look like its shrouded in shadow -OVERCAST: contrast sucks again, but the shade of the lens is good for overcast -NIGHT: hard to decipher anything different, ice/snow/guy dressed in white/jumps, its all hard to see cuz theres no definintion or contrast, but at least the shade is light enought to see at night BOTTOM LINE: this lens kinda sucks, but it will work if your pinching pennys and need an all around lens, just stay away from the sun and be prepared for everything to turn orange :-)
Actually no - the Emerald Irid. lenses are best for mostly sunny riding days. If you want a night riding (ie: very little available light) lens from this selection, the Hi-Intensity Yellow or a straight up Clear lens are going to treat you the best.
Love the oakley lenses and goggles. after fooling around with cheaper goggles like spy's and smith's, i finally decided to buck up for some crowbars. the clarity of the optics and field of view is unparalleled and oakley provides a lens for any condition you will face. i have the black iridiums that came with the frames and i bought a HI yellow lens for the foggy and overcast days. I would highly recommend this combo, as it prepares you for pretty much any conditions you will face on the mountain. if you are looking for one lens that will do everything reasonably well, check out the HI persimmon. It has less light transmission that the HI yellow so it will be better on the bright days, but will bring out contrast better than an iridium lens will. Overall i would highly recommend Oakley frames and lenses!
Oakley's reflective lenses are going to be the ones with the Iridium coating. Black, Fire, and Gold Iridium have the lowest light transmission (click "sizing chart" for our list of all of Oakley's lens tints), and are best for reducing glare on those bitching bluebird days.
So I have the Fire Iridium lens which are great for sunny days, but they aren't good for any other kind of weather. Any suggestions for what lens I should get for non sunny days?
Yeah, I have pink iridium lenses for night riding... all my friends have dark lenses and then have to ditch the goggles once the sun goes down, but mine i can wear all night.
I don't think dogfunk has them right now, but you can always get them straight from oakley at http://www.oakley.com/products/3279/24157
the fire lens is the most mirrored of oakley's. It's also the darkest, I think it lets in like 16% of the light, so you want it for sunny and mostly sunny days.
these lenses are kickin. super good looking is a plus but the optics are what really impress me. not great for flat light they work for sure. i highly recommend them for any age/ability level
Which of these lenses is the most mirrored? I know that all iridium is technically mirrored, but which can you see through the least from the outside of all of these lenses? I don't want fire iridium, though I know that it is extremely reflective from the outside, so which other iridium lens can you see through the least from outside?
The Black is probably the next most reflective and then the blue for the Iridium Lens's but the H.I. amber is also vary Mirrored........ hope that helped
I was looking at replacing my Oakley A frames with crowbars because I feel like the A frames are too small for my face and limits my vision. I plan on getting the Jet Black Crowbars with the Fire Lens for riding on sunny days, and also getting the H.I. Perimission lens for cloudier days and night riding. Would this be a good choice? How are the H.I. Permission lenses at night?
And just a heads up for anyone planning on getting the fire lens, The only time you can use it is on sunny days. It is horrible for cloudy days or night riding. You can't see anything but white. So if your planning on doing more riding at night or such I would look for a lens with a lighter tint.
Yeah, just be careful only having one frame with 2 lenses, my frames are getting worn out from popping them in and out all the time.... just use the $75 you'd be spending towards new lenses to buy an extra frame with a different lens
For night... H.I. yellow is better than HI persimmon. I have both lenses. I use the HI persimmon for mostly cloudy days and the HI yellow for snowy days and night riding. I'd get the H.I. Yellow lens for night
Bought these in High Intensity yellow to compliment my Fire Iridium lenses. These work great for cloudy and low visibility days. I really hate wearing goggles in conditions like this due to the lack of perceiving contrast and these lenses are the closet I've found to making it tolerable.
don't use glass cleaner. they are way harsh on the lens coatings. if you are having fogging isusses: first never wipe a lens while wet, second use 'cat crap' (it is a product specific for snow googles and works great). if you have to clean them use 'plexus' it should be avalible at any motorcycle shop. the glass cleaner may have wrecked the lens. you may need to get a new lens or wait for a new pair of googles to show up on whiskey milita.
My blue iridium lens is great when the light goes from grey bird to about as bright as it gets. It's a pretty good all around lens for anything. Get the yellow iridium for night or super-stormy, socked-in conditions. This is yet another solid lens and goggle from Oakley.
the clear lens is a must for any shredder wanting to shred anytime. they provide maximum light while skiing closed runs at night and are great on cloudy days. they are a little weak in the fog however, but it's still bearable.
K so I have the oakly crowbar frame which is about a year old and I totaly destroyed the lenses. If I buy these replacements will they still fit even though my goggle frame is a year old? And if so whats a good lens for like foggy conditions
if the yellow lens is too bright, which it probably will be for anything partly sunny or brighter, check out the high intensity persimnon. A tad darker, but still good in low and flat light, and even ok in a little sunlight.
yea itll still work. frame shape hasnt changed at all. foggy? well my favorite low contrast lens is the High Intensity Yellow lens. I use it at night and in fog and overcast. It has 81% light transmission i think so its good for those darker low contrast conditions
It depends on the conditions you ride and personal preference whether they are the best or not. You can look on Oakleys website to see what it looks like through each lens and what conditions they are best for. They are iridium coated which makes them have better contrast and reduces glare. I am not sure if they are considered mirrored but you cannot see through the lens when looking at a person wearing them.
i bought the hi yellows for stormy/whiteout conditions, (they work great by the way), but now I need some all-purpose lenses to compliment them. i like the Fire iridiums, but is there something more dope i should know about? seems like there are a lot of choices.
I have a fire and it is good for really bright bluebird days. For an all purpose lense u should look for a vr28 or g30. Oakley has lense tints on their website so you could go there.Hope this helps
