Description

Kick it old-school.

Way back in the '80s when pink spandex was king, people scrambled to find a pair of Oakley Frogskin Sunglasses. And whether you choose to go for the Shaun White sigs or for a polished pro, the Frogskins will block those harmful UV rays as you stroll down the street with a ghetto-blaster on your shoulder.

I like my frogskins.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I chose the last pair of the basin red with pink iridium lens because I snagged them on sale. I got them for $30 here on bc, and couldn't be happier. The quality is good, typical oakley, the frame is solid and the lens definition is outstanding. Oakley's visual quality is great. These are my everything glasses. Once I get back from my run, I need something that looks better than my racing jackets. These fit the bill. Best casual sunnies I've ever had. I had a pair of electric tonettes before this, and these are better in every way. I have a small face.

I like my frogskins.

Stylish retro shades

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These shades are a classic shape that I really like and fit my face well. They are super lightweight which is really handy if you are outside and wearing sunglasses all day. I wear them for a variety of outdoor activities. Lounging, boating, fishing, and hiking these fit the bill.

Nice active shades

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these last week for the summer. My 2nd pair of Oakley sunglasses I have owned and I am very pleased. The color is great and I love how the sunglasses fit and look.

Looking forward to having them protect my eyes from UV rays this summer in Utah as I travel, hike, climb and explore.

Perfection meets sunglasses

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Light, snug, durable what else could you ask for. I've put these through hard use and they never quit. they have exploded from impact with a ball twice and "pop pop" the arms and lenses snap right back in.

Gave these as a gift for my friend and he loves them.

Great shades

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First pair of nice sunglasses I ever purchased were some Oakley sport type glasses. Then bought a pair of O's for boarding. Saw these guys and had to get them. Love Oakleys. I have to agree that they do feel slightly cheap, but I bought them for the look and the shape. Not many types of glasses look good on my face, but I get lots of compliments on these. Would like the price better if they were polarized lenses, but I had some extra Christmas money, so I bit the bullet and bought em anyway.

seem flimsy

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

i returned these for aesthetic reasons. while the green lenses and smoke frames were cool, the shape of the frames just didn't appeal once i had them on.

i agree w/ the many reviews previous noting these glasses feel cheap in hand. with eyes closed i'd be hard pressed, i bet, to pick them out of a much lower cost crowd. i don't think the lenses are polarized, either. so, if i'm going to drop a bill or more on some casual shades, they better look really sick and i just didn't feel that way about these.

close, but no cigar.

May slide off your face.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These glasses are fantastic. But there is one drawback. Usually with sunglasses or even just normal glasses there are little rubber things that stick to the bridge of your nose. Not with these. And if you are like me, when you bend over you will drop them occasionally. But if you don't mind the occasional scratch, then I would totally recommend these glasses.

Old school meets new school

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love Frogskins - they were my first pair of Oakleys back when they came out and I couldn't imagine paying $50 for a pair. Now, at $100+, I still can't. But - I did. After my first pair was stolen from my car years ago, I got caught in the nostalgia of the re-release and bought a pair again.

I have a smaller face, and don't remember them fitting so wide across the eyes. Maybe I'm just used to the square wires and smaller pieces... but the lightweight frame is still the same - if not lighter.

I agree that now, after being an adult and feeling metals in sunglasses like titanium and magnesium, or the Oakley X metal (whatever that is...)... the Frogskins feel cheap. Still - as a grab and go pair of specs, they're good and easy on the eyes.

Just wish Oakley would put back out the bright yellow/purple irridium lens combo that was stolen... I loved those...

I love my frogskins

My frogskins have been my go to shades for a couple years now. Not really the best shades but they are my style. I enjoy them and you will too

Meh!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got a pair of these in the non polarized and polarized versions. I thought I would try them out for casual sunglasses and compare them to my Revo's. In the end I think they are cool and stylish, but the lens quality in both the pol and nonpol versions is horrendous. If you are looking to look cool then this is your glasses, but put on a pair of Revo and or Maui Jim's right after these and you will then know what I am talking about. You can't beat a crystalline lens with a plastic lens. Aside from that they are light and you can put pretty much any lens in them you want.

Cool Shades

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

In my eye's the frogskin is just a toned down version of the Holbrook. I have both Holbrook's and Frogskin's and I used the Holbrooks for more of a classy yet casual look and the frogskins are my "active" shades. I wore these mountain biking all summer and definitely put some abuse on them, and haven't had any problems.

Overall, if you are on a budget, these are a great shade. If you want something that looks and feels a little higher end, go with the Holbrook.

Really wanted to like these

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really wanted to like these - 80s throwback, made in the USA, great look - but the arms just kept popping off at very inopportune times - actually like all the time. They also stretched out so never really stayed on my face well - but when they did, they looked great. If you are only going to wear these in your car (i.e., leave them there) then go for it, but otherwise I would pass. Sent mine back.

i agree, the optics and style are about the only things good about these shades. they aren't anything special when it comes to how well they're put together.

Great Sunglasses

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If the price isn't too much of a deterrent, it's hard to go wrong with these. They feature a classic design that makes for a great pair of shades to wear around town in style. Being used to metal aviator frames, I was particularly impressed by how light they are. I got them in polished black/grey.

Bought 3 pairs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So I got my brother a pair of the polarized matte black for his birthday, and after I saw how awesome these actually are, I bought myself 2 versions of the standard lens. The colors are vivid, my favorite pair is the white with ruby red. These work fantastic outdoors on sunny California days. I wear them on the golf course and the red lens helps with clarity against the grass. Thumbs up!
