Oakley Jupiter Sunglasses - 2009

Oakley’s mad scientists were charged with bringing back classic style without corrupting modern edginess they took a new approach and created the Jupiter Sunglasses. After melting down healthy doses of electric guitar, comic book villain, and rogue stunt car driver, they forged the lightweight O-Matter frame and polished it off with UV-blocking Plutonite lenses. Despite a few face-melt casualties, the lab crew managed to refine Jupiter’s design with high-definition optics, so the wearer can enjoy a crystal clear view of the unbridled envy in the eyes of bystanders.

Bottom Line: Classical lines and uncompromising style in the face of … melted faces.

Oakley at its best

I have these in the clear/violet colorway, and let me tell you, these shades kick a**. Clear frames seem like an odd idea, but they look really good when they are on your face. The frame appears semi-invisible, but looks sick. The violet iridium is totally unique and is COMPLETELY mirrored. The edges of the lenses fade to blue and green, which looks sick. These are really just a remake of the iconic Frogskins, with MANY improvements. The metal hinges are VERY sturdy and smooth, much more so than the Gascan or Frogskins hinges. They run tighter than the Frogskins, but that serves to keep them stuck to your face. I get comments on these EVERYWHERE. They also happen to be some of the less expensive Oakleys out there, so jump on these!!!!

Also, there is another version called the Jupiter LX that is also awesome. Instead of a regular plastic frame, the LX has an acetate frame. This is heavier, but is also more durable and more "luxurious" feeling. There is a Shaun White colorway that is AWESOME. The LX tends to run a little more expensive, but they are great. They feel like a combination of Oakleys and Ray-Bans. Also recommended.

It depends on the lens. It's not that bad with a lighter lens (although I wouldn't wear them) but with the black or grey lens' dusk will be damn dark.

...before they're relics on ebay

Who knows what Oakley has in store for the Jupiter? For the moment though, it has been discontinued so now's your last chance to swoop up what is arguably the most unique, and best-fitting retro-inspired design they've ever produced.

* yeah, the style may be a little androgynous, but they're still rad as hell. sack up and snag a pair

Cool as ICE

These are basically an updated version of the Frogskins. They are curved a bit more [seen when looking at shades from up top] and have a sleeker look. I definitely like the bands better as well. I have them with the Ice Iridium lenses and the color and clarity are perfect. Everything you expect from Oakley.

Dope Shades

By:

I've had a set of these shades for about a year now... they are SICK. I have them in white/gold and am considering buying them in black/black. Haven't had any problems with anything on them, I've been hit by a car riding my road racing bike, they made it through almost untouched and perfectly intact, very durable, just take care of them. I got a pretty nice scratch in the lens from the accident but what would you expect out of any other pair of shades. Excellent protection from the sun, no complaints at all, whatsoever. Highly recommend to all those out there considering buying a pair/have the money to shell out, definately worth the investment.
