Description

There's no such thing as a sure thing in an avalanche, but the Pieps DSP increases your chance of success.

Even though the Pieps DSP Smart Transmitter feels like cheating in the event of a rescue—there is no cheating when it comes to digging out your best buddy. Pieps is the pioneer of the 3-antenna system and has been defining the term ‘exact’ when it comes to locating a buried victim. The Smart Transmitter provides superior results in multiple burial searches by eliminating signal overlap and synchronizing signal reception with other beacons for increased speed. All of which allows you to concentrate on finding your buddy—which means you can dig faster and search less.

Simple, reliable and intuitive

The best transceiver I've ever used. It has better range than many other competing models and the direction arrows are quite precise- really saving time in search mode.

Keep in mind that the battery level is not entirely indicative of the true battery level (and no I'm not using lithium batteries), mine takes roughly 30 hours of use to drop from 100% to 90%, another 30 hours to drop to 50% and another 20 hours to drop to 20%. As such I usually swap out batteries on mine when they reach about 50-60%.

Great beacon, easy to use

Very straight-forward, easy to use beacon. Definitely no replacement for education, but a necessary tool for the backcountry.

It picks up other signals fast & is very easy to understand - a essential feature in any life-threatening situation.

Great, light, affordable, reliable - any more questions?

Works great!

Thankfully I have only had to use this for practice but it performs well. Tracking is simple and easy to follow and straps nicely across your chest with the included straps and carrying pouch.

All you need in a beacon, and nothing mo

I had a chance to test about six beacons a few seasons ago and the Pieps DSP was by far and away the clear winner. It had the farthest range, the simplest controls, the more direct search vectors and was very intuitive. As a big plus, it had nothing more, including features that drain batteries, add confusion, etc..

Andrew, obviously your opinion on this beacon means a great deal! Thanks.. How about the new pro? Have you had a chance to use the new pro?

Great beacon

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have the 2010 model, this beacon is very intuitive and easy to use. When practicing with others I have never seen another beacon pick-up a signal faster/further away. I have never had any problems or complications with it.

Pieps DSP

Great avalanche beacon. Easy to use, easy to learn, and the mulitple burial icon is the best I have seen on any beacon. Would recommend this beacon to anybody.

Superb Beacon

After doing extensive research online and using different beacons in the field, I decided to get this beacon - I couldn't be happier with my purchase. This beacon is very quick to pick up signals and very easy to read/follow to a buried victim. It came out of the box with the V8.2 Firmware, which is completely upgradeable (fantastic feature). I highly recommend this beacon for anyone who travels in the backcountry (skiers, boarders, snowmobilers, etc...)

Fantastic Beacon

I just bought a second one so I could donate my older one (still fully functional) to a friend. The DSP is the fastest 3-antenna beacon I've used. I've tried the tracker, tracker 2, and ortovox 3+. It's also the easiest to use -- especially in multi-burial practice with the flag function. If you want the best, the DSP is the way to go. Trust your LIFE SUPPORT equipment to no one else.

Best available

Fastest search time on the market in tests, longer range than the BCA Tracker 2. Had the 2007 for several years and I outperform my buddies in practice searches.

Don't take my word for it, see the 33 reviews on the 2007 model at the bottom of this page.

Shocked to see this one didn't have reviews
