Description

Comfort, protection, and style that makes the ladies smile.

POC altered their popular four season Receptor helmet to create the snow-specific POC Receptor BUG Helmet which offers bombproof protection and style to boot. Merged hard-shell and in-mold construction creates a unique double-shell design with superior ventilation and the ability to protect your head against impact or penetration from sharp objects. Removable ear pads keep your ears warm on frigid days whether you take the Bug for a hike in the backcountry, or for a few laps in the park.

  • POC joined an external ABS hard shell with an internal polycarbonate shell to create an exceptionally strong helmet that's lightweight
  • The Ventilated Double Shell Anti Penetration technology allows air to flow between the inner and outer shell to create ample ventilation without compromising protection
  • A single-impact EPS liner maintains a low profile fit with all the impact shock absorption you need to stay safe

What type of goggles fit best with this helmet?

Best Answer Responded on

This helmet is going to fit the best with POC goggles, but most of the larger style goggles should work just fine.

Responded on

Do you think the smith goggles will fit?

Love love love this helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

POC is always my go to in safety equipment. I've been using this helmet for 5 seasons by now, next year I will be replacing it and upgrading to the Backcountry MIPS model.

The Receptor Bug is warm, comfortable, stylish, and most importantly a quality piece of safety equipment. I'm the type that refuses to go skiing without my helmet, I simply can't ski confidently without it on. I've rung my bell pretty good a handful of times with this helmet on from slipping out on ice, to tree branches that were thicker than expected, to high speed tomahawks, to crashes in the park (cause I suck at park skiing)... I mean if you're not falling you're not trying, right? Through every fall I've taken with the Receptor Bug I'm still living concussion free and I don't believe that would be the case with inferior helmets. The helmet is littered with scrapes and scratches from trees on the matte black finish (see posted pic), which I guess would be my only complaint, but I'm not complaining about it, these things will happen. It fits perfectly with my POC lobes which helps prevent snow and moisture from fogging up my goggles, as well as the dreaded gaper gap! Friends of mine who have borrowed the helmet are now planning on purchasing a Receptor model as well and have raved about how comfortable it is.

Every helmet should only take so many hits before you replace it, it's tough to gauge exactly when you reach this point but I'm assuming I have by now. I'm planning to replace the helmet with the Backcountry MIPS version for even more safety precaution. A piece of plastic in this model will break in a harsh life threatening crash so the liner and outer shell of the helmet can rotate separately and reduce the brain jostling (fun thought right). I recommend the Receptor model for comfort and warmth, and this standard Bug version has served me well over the years, but if you have the extra cash I'd recommend getting the MIPS model. BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR HELMET EVERY DAY!!!!

Long Lasting Helmet / Excellent Quality

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used this helmet for skiing + MTBing for 5 years and am just now retiring it. Taken a lot of dings and hits (nothing big thankfully!) and held up great. The winter liner no longer fits in as snug as it used to as the velcro has worn down so i hope the design for that has upgraded since ((the error was mostly in how it fit into the back of the head... even the ears didn't jam back into the helmet inside?)). It can appear to be a bit big on the head if you struggle with that look, but all helmets have that problem and it's about the person. Overall this is a slick looking helmet and the color choices are endless.

This is top notch quality helmet. Trust it with my life.

I just purchased a medium. It fits great with all the padding in but I plan on wearing my beanie and googles underneath the helmet. Is it bad to remove the padding to make room for beAnie and googles or should I size up?

Don't even know it's there!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had a Receptor Bug helmet for almost 4 seasons now. It's made it through visits to Vail, Snowbird, Park City, Breck, Keystone, Copper & various Midwest resorts. Doesn't show to much ware and tare from falling, my helmet of choice while in the park or surfing pow! I vary rarely recognize it's on my head even!

Only thing to take into consideration when purchasing your helmet, measure your head with a hat on, as well as a goggle strap if you like to wear yours under your helmet. Also if you got big bulky hair like I did when first purchasing take into consideration for your size. Wish I would have bumped up a size.

Saved my friend's life.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

ER doctor said without the helmet he wouldn't have survived the impact. Wear a helmet folks.

What does it mean when they say it is "audio compatible"? I need a helmet with earpads that I can insert my own audio headphones into. Can this helmet support that?

Responded on

It means the earpads are removable so you can replace them with ones that have speakers in them, but the ones included in the helmet don't have speakers.

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this for my 14 year old. Fits great, nice and light, great low profile look. He bought the bluetooth mask that easily connects to it which is great for hands free communication with family and friends.

LOVE this helmet

I just got this helmet, and I absolutely love it. It fits my head great (I measure 58cm and I got the XL, which works perfect with a beanie and goggles underneath). It also of course interfaces with POC goggles exceptionally well (I use the Lobes personally). The helmet does a great job protecting the noggin and looking mighty fine while doing so. Love the ventilation, and overall really love this helmet!

A helmet you can trust

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used this helmet for about 4 seasons now, and finally had to purchase a new one. Besides a few whacks which could have compromised the padding, the outer shell separated from the layer underneath it (all of the padding). It still works, but I had a Traumatic Brain Injury last September do not have any leeway with hitting my head again. This helmet is approved by both the EU standard and the ASTM standard for impacts, which is nice to know. I wear it with a beanie underneath and no earflaps and it fits perfectly. I removed some of the velcro padding they include, but that is all. Overall it is quite bomber, and is one of the few helmets I feel very safe in.

Bombproof construction, funky fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I tried to love the Receptor Bug, the Receptor+, and the Fornix. The construction is second to none and the features are amazing, yet they all didn't quite fit my dome. The POC fit is more of a circular shape, and my noggin is apparently more oval shaped. It was a shame, because these helmets are awesome.

Excellent Helmet, great fit, and keeps my noggin warm.

Very comfortable and warm enough that you don't need a hat. The helmet strap sucks but with a little superglue it has stayed put. Average size head and medium fit like a glove. Usually use Electric EG goggles and theres no gap. Ear flaps stay on your ears.

POC--The Volvo of Brain Buckets!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The POC Receptor Bug fits like your best ball cap. It is a helmet within a helmet. The design and safety features place it in a category few, if any other manufacturers can equal. Simply put, the helmet is akin to being the Volvo of brain buckets! The chin strap has a pad to keep the clip from rubbing under your chin. The straps are adjustable. The padding on the back of the neck will not fall off after extended use like it does in some other popular helmets. The color is cool and will never be the object of ridicule by your homies.

I'm considering in buying a blue helmet, but what is the difference between the colour 'Krypton Blue' and 'Strong Blue'? They look exactly the same in the pictures.

I received this helmet in the mail a few days ago and was blown away at how well this helmet is built. I would recommend this helmet to anyone.

Great fit for my noggin

I tried helmets from all the major manufacturers, and this one fit my head the best, despite the fact that I'm neither a Swede nor an alien (as far as I know). Your mileage may vary, of course. The sizes are definitely screwy, according to POC I'm a large, but the medium fit perfectly.

As others have mentioned, the goggle clip is really poorly designed. Mine came off and disappeared on the second day. I sent email to customer support at POC about buying additional ones, but have yet to get a response.

Strangely, the vents tend to resonate when the wind is blowing perpendicular to the direction you're facing. It's not a big deal, but it gets kind of loud on windy days.

Based on the fit alone, I'm quite happy with this helmet.

Responded on

Good looking helmet, reasonably warm & comfortable. Goggle clip is junk. Had I know it would fall off causing me to lose my goggle while riding, I'd never have purchased it.
POC won't do anything for you but they have upgraded the system this year so you can spend another $150 and buy new goggles too. I won't buy from POC again
