Description

Advanced protection for every season.

Ditch your closet full of helmets for the POC Receptor+ Helmet. A versatile liner and shell construction gives you multiple impact protection for four seasons of hard charging. On water, concrete, or snow POC's double shell design and penetration-proof Aramid layering protects your head from big hits and sharp threats. A unique venting system allows air to circulate around the multi-purpose liner whether you're shredding powder, or dropping into a steep line on your eight-inch downhill bike.

  • Multi-impact SEPP liner can withstand multiple small impacts, and it absorbs the force of one truly catastrophic crash
  • Ballistic APB places a layer of pentration-proof Aramid between the molded shell and liner
  • POC joined an external ABS hard shell with an internal polycarbonate shell to create an exceptionally strong helmet that's lightweight
  • The Ventilated Double Shell Anti Penetration technology allows air to flow between the inner and outer shell to create ample ventilation without compromising protection

Another exceptional helmet

Super solid! I got this for my bf, and it's perfect. His head is 58cm, and the XL fits perfect with a beanie and goggles underneath. Once again interfaces with POC goggles amazingly (he uses the Corneas). POC makes some of the best helmets handsdown- would definitely recommend!

my daughter loves this helmet

uses it for downhill skiing, but has soft ear covering so not suitable for giant slalom- heads up

Loved it, but didn't fit right

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I gave this helmet a go after two competitor's helmets fell apart on me. POC is doing everything right with their helmet design. I only had one issue, the fit. It is more circular than oval shaped, and unfortunately just didn't quite fit my noggin right. Great helmet though.

what goggles would be suggested for this...

what goggles would be suggested for this helmet?

Any that arn't be poc?
thanks for the answer though!

I recommend checking out some oakley goggles! I use this same helmet and am using the airbrakes with it. it has a very nice fit with no gap. i would also recommend the oakley splices and crowbars as they have a similar fit to the oakley airbrakes!

other goggles can work, but lexi suggested POC goggles for a reason. companies usually design their helmets and goggles to work best together. for example, they'll have a similar profile (narrower gap) and compatible venting features.

A friend of mine sports those POC Lobes goggle and he looks really slick! They look great in person!

Got some Seth Morrison pro airbrakes love them!

I love my Receptor +.

I've had it for 2 season's now. Love the way it fits, love how it's lasted, etc. It's taken some serious hits and holds up. Doesn't move. I have POC goggles, and it's a seamless fit. Really impressed. Love that they thought to put a layer of Kevlar in this brain bucket. It was the reason I stepped up from the Bug. Does fit a bit small = Large head = XL helmet. Just FYI.

I love my Receptor +.

Just get sport-specific helmets

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Like many of you, I've got a bunch of helmets, so the appeal of "one helmet to rule them all" was obvious. No more swapping out helmets for each season - get one good one and stick with it.

Unfortunately, the POC Receptor+ hasn't worked out as well as I had hoped. Here's how it fared during one year of usage in the following sports:

Downhill skiing - This was my main use. Fit was great for me, helmet was comfortable for all day wear. However, the goggle clip is a disaster - it fell off during my first wreck. Bought a replacement from POC, superglued it on, and it eventually broke as well. Now I'm just using velcro, which works okay, but tears up your goggle straps. Ventilation is so-so - the helmet makes a loud whistling sound when you're going fast, and I've found that small areas of my head get really cold while others are still pretty warm.

Bike commuting - My old bike helmet needed to be replaced, so I figured I'd try out the POC. Not recommended, even with the winter padding removed. It's just too warm for summer commuting - I was sweating like crazy. Switching back to a real bike helmet was a welcome change.

Downhill mountain biking - Worked pretty well for a couple of days. I wasn't overheating as much as I did for bike commuting, and having kevlar helmet makes sense when you're bombing downhill. But if you do that much downhill, wouldn't you want a faceguard as well?

Kitesurfing - If it's good for whitewater kayaking, it'll be good for kitesurfing, right? Well, I'm dubious how good this helmet would be for whitewater. The interior padding system fell apart during the course of a season in and out of the water. Easy enough to fix by buying more velcro and more pads, but not really recommended.

Rock climbing - Similar to bike commuting, this helmet it just too warm for summer usage. Weight weenies might also complain about how heavy it is, but that didn't bother me too much.

Could be great helment, Poor Fit

I have tried a few other helmets besides this one, due to me returning this helmet. This helmet did have some features that I really liked about it. The removable ventilation lining is amazing. Also the design of the vent holes prevent snow from entering the top of your helmet if its snowing outside and you have the liner out.

The padding is very nice, and shape in front for the goggles is perfect.

Thinks I didn't like. the helmet fit perfectly snug as it should, but the placement of the ear covers are back way to far. If you wear the helmet properly, when you ski you will have air and wind going right into your ears. Who wants that? I also didn't like the chin strap. The soft cover part was to small and would slide over to the side over time eventually not doing anything except be in the way. Also the goggle clip is a horrible design. Could be much better.

Overall the helmet was not bad, and looked really nice. But I have found that other helmets offer the better ear protection and more comfortable chin strap that I like to have.

great helmet

I love this helmet. be a little careful on the fit. POC helmets fit a little different than giro and smith. otherwise it is a great helmet.

Responded on

What do you mean "be a little careful on the fit"??? What does that mean, exactly? In what way? Size up? Size down??
If you could be a little more specific--or if you have some useful advice that would be helpful. Thanks

Responded on

POC helmets tend to run small compared to other popular US brands. If you are near the upper boarderline of a size, you would most likely go up a size with POC. Also, their "head shape" tends to be more round than oblong. This experience comes from both selling POC helmets, and wearing them. Hope that helps.

do they make an xxl receptor bug helmet...

do they make an xxl receptor bug helmet ?

they do now! if bc isn't carrying it, check out pocsports.com

Awesome Helmet

I love this helmet! I am an avid skier and find this helmet is a great fit. If your the type that like to stick goggles under the helmet it will still be comfortable. The goggle clip is quite crappy and falls out often. It is nice and thick. The ear pieces don't fit very well but with the chin strap tight enough it works. It also works great as a MTB helmet and wakeboard or skateboard. It can easily switch from snow to water in a matter of seconds. I 100% suggest this helmet to anyone. It is worth the price!

Multi-functional, Good fit, Crappy goggle clip

I bought this helmet in the hope of finally having a single helmet that I could use for skiing, rock climbing, river tubing, and whatever other random activities come up.

So far I've only use it for skiing. It fits well, ventilation works well (I occasionally put my hood up because my head gets cold), and seems to do a decent job of protecting my noggin.

My only complaint so far is the goggle clip, which is a total afterthought on an otherwise well-designed helmet. It doesn't hold your goggle strap in place very well and fell off during the first wreck I had. So I ordered another one and superglued it on. The second clip has held so far, but catches on stuff in my ski bag and I expect I'll break it eventually.

One trick I have found is to use the extra velcro dots that came with the helmet to help hold my ski goggle in place. They seem to be working okay so far.

I'll give it another star in a few months if the helmet holds up well to summer use.

Hi, where did you get the new clip from? I can't seem to find any online.

Great fit

My head measurement is about 22.5", the medium fits perfectly, no strange pressure points on my head (I'm certainly not a Swede, however, I may seem a little alienish to some) . The sizes can very from line to line. In the other models the larges had a better fit; receptor bug, frontal, skull light.

Could have saved myself $40 if I had ordered it from BC, but I wanted to try it on @ a local shop and then figured.... eh, why not support the local economy from time to time.

Bad Fit

I am still a fan of the designs, colors, and tech that POC puts into its helmets but they did not work out for me. First off the sizing chart is wrong in every helmet I've had I've been a large POC said I was a XL they were wrong. Backcountry send me the right size and made an exchange really easy (thanks BC) but the helmet has strange pressure points. I had read previous reviews that stated this but didn't believe them tell I had tried the helmet.

Bottom line I like the brand but the sizing chart is a size too large and its a uncomfortable helmet unless your a alien or Swedish.

Solid lid that looks non-dorkoriffic

Just like the Bug, except slightly heavier due to the impact barrier...(can't notice the difference...I have both). Also, the sizing on this is "slightly" looser than the Receptor Bug, maybe to accommodate for other seasons? maybe an individual fluke on my particular piece?
I'd still buy it again...in fact did I mention I have two? Bought my daughter a POC poquito helmet after I wore this a few times. Done deal.

Not recommended

fit was weird for me, pressure points at the temples.
